That kind of reminds me of Degrassi making an episode months ago, literally called "Not All Men", that covered stuff like video games and sexism and so forth. There was a white boy who was really angry that people are triggered by so much nowadays and takes a keyboard and throws it on the ground. Pretty sure that was their skewed interpretation of us. Some of the comments on the video were tearing it apart, though. Anyways, the MTV thing might be something like that where the people who made it have a warped view on things, making it easy to ridicule.

Ah, that whole "Punching up" excuse. I never really got that. Anyway:

@Gabenus Trollucus

There's an article that seems to target the message of the matter

This redefines Gamergate with new iteration: A Revolt against Identity Politics. A revolt against the idea that the more of a minority you are/ the more oppressed you are: the more "pure" you are. However, if you're in a position of power and more common, then you must be inherently sinful.

Though I do find it hilarious that the Developer talking brings up a hypothetical that actually happened.

(I should probably bring that material to him just to get his take on things. Could be fun.)

So to fit this new definition in Gamergate (Revolt against Identity Politics: RaIP? Wow, that's unfortunate.) I give you the other topics that are going on in the Gamergate community actively concerning this angle:

Amy Schumer, teaming up with Sony to become the next barbie and getting praise for it

FFXV is Patriarchy for having a cast of 4 males

And

PewDiePie threatens to leave Youtube becuase he believes he's getting shafted for not being PR friendly/White (Youtube link)

Also for more pure Gamegate news related to ethics in videogaming:

Pixel Empire appears to be some sort of "EXPOSURE" campaign that is acting really really shady (KiA Link)

Casting Amy Schumer to play Barbie is like casting George Carlin to play Mr. Rogers.

Also, PAGE 60!!

You seem to miss the point pewdiepie's video, its more about how youtube's algorithm changes prioritize viral videos over people who produce daily updated content. It doesn't have to do with gamergate at all, or identity politics, its just google being greedy.

I figured it had more to do with how terribly the media reported on Pewdiepies. Announcement.

http://archive.is/CTDME

Pewdiepie also posted a twitter response in the form of "lol they don't get sarcasm" IIRC.

The full (though somewhat redacted to hide identifier information) death threat letter that made Anita cancel her speech has been revealed.

Yeah… it looks like a joke.

hmmm….
"of gamergate"
"Your fucking dead kiddos"
"9000 bombs"
"Gamergators, as we prefer to call ourselves"
"behind 7 proxies"
"lulzback"
"fapping to all your pictures"

This really does look like it was written by Anita or someone in her clique.

Also FBI investigation has been terminated

“To date, all available investigative steps failed to identify any subjects or actionable leads. San Francisco USAO indicated the San Francisco office of USA will not be able to prosecute any threats against victims or subject that are not located in the San Francisco AOR.

“It is requested that this investigation be administratively closed due to lack of leads. There are no items of evidence maintained by the FBI for this investigation. There are no currently outstanding leads for this investigation.”

“During the course of the investigation, the FBI San Francisco continued analyzing threats [redacted] by sending subpoenas and tracking IP addresses associated with the email and twitter accounts. No additional subjects or actionable leads were developed as the result of the investigation.

“In addition, during the course of the investigation, another victim of “Gamergate”, [redcated] was identified and interviewed by the FBI. Sounds like she got trolled.

MrKIllUltra

Yeah, I've never seen a Pro GG person refer to themselves as a "gamergator" or the group as "gamergators". That's a term that Aggros use to identify us. That there with the "9000 bombs" and "lulzback" definitely gives off the vibe that this seems fake. And the sad part is that the press and a bunch of vacuous drones actually took that seriously like it was a real thing that could happen. People still prop that up as an example of why GG is bad. We were able to identify it as fake pretty much immediately, but they couldn't. Really says nothing good about their critical thinking ability.

@MrKillultra

Mundane Matt made a video talking about it, his speculation and if you go to the video page, there's even a prediction by Sargon as to credibility. This video helps put things into context:

Meanwhile with Sweden (Kia Link, because the article is in Swedish)

Apparently Anita was given an award, with Gamergate given as a means to highlight her role.

A really poetic translation is:
"Two years later GamerGate happened – an Internet based movement that is linked to murder and rape threats and harassment directed against several female gaming critics, game designers and game developers in the United States. Anita Sarkeesian was one of those who suffered and she had to leave her home and cancel lectures because of bomb threats and death threats made against her and her family."

Now that we know what those threats were thanks to the FBI leak. this comes off as really funny.

Also, to tie in with Bookie, Mundane Matt made another video talking about Wu and the involvement with gamergate.

The thing about Wu's actions, is that it lines up with the description from the CON Skype leaks. How Wu could discredit everyone that was involved with those leaks, (more so than just themselves alone) and it looks like that's what's happening.

Woah woah woah! Remember, we have to keep on the topic of Gamergate here, according to Sr. Forum Mod Rivers. So to clarify:

Ghostbusters 2016 was marketed heavily using Identity politics and used marketing tactics similar to that of those against Gamergate. Media, advertising and marketing Ghostbusters 2016, has a history of calling critique as against women and used similar attacks when talking about Gamergate.

Since Gamergate is about Ethics in Gaming Journalism and Resitsing against Identity Politics. This topic falls under Gamergate Discussion for the second definition.

There we go. Carry on.

With what's discovered through the CON leaks and these FBI documents, it certainly makes phrases like, "stop making her famous" seem really disingenuous. There's nothing we can or can't do to stop them from getting attention since they have friends in the press willing to advertise their faux victim hood.

Worry not about her fame, it's infinitely more entertaining to expose her lies make change the nature of her fame to being "well-known for being a more tremendous liar than Pinnochio".

It's been a while time for an update:

The Guardian draws parallels between Fight Club and Gamergate

Must be a slow day at Kotaku because Nathan Grayson is making up stories again even recycling a copypasta as a source

To clarify, Games "Journalist" makes up fake news for clicks again.

Another writer drops spaghetti on Gamergate. Now Gamergators are also Members of the IRA! And mainstream video games are problematic, like the works of DW Griffith (Film maker who's works are deemed as racist)and Leni Riefenstahl (Nazi propagandist.)

The level of tinfoil, pushpins and yarn is staggering.

Are you telling me they say it is thanks to GG that someone brought allegations of a deep child molesting ring among high ranked US government employees? Look, think the same way Sargon of Akkad does, there is not enough evidence for Pizzagate right now, however denying the fact that governments have child moslester rings is totally insulting, and if GG brought information of a possible child molester ring then GG is a good thing.

katakis wrote:

So I just got a "warning"

dude what, is that an offense now

Perhaps, to those that think GamerGate is was an annoying controversy. Regardless of ones stance, it got salt from anyone involved, be it pro, anti, or "neutral" (And I say that in quotations because neutrals can be on any side of the spectrum). Really, GG trending is an offense, perhaps closing the galleries and comments should be done. Even then, GamerGate is still going on, either alive or as a dead horse thanks to the fact you have some people thinking Trump got into the White House thanks to GamerGate.

The comments and galleries aren't closed because users are meant to discuss possible changes to the entry (and upload images related to those). Anything else that is relevant is meant to be here.

Actually, we got a thread for that too; it's even promoted at the top of the entry.

While debate stuff is best moved here to avoid past issues, you can't really warn everyone for commenting in a comment section.

That is kinda ironic when you just said we should only post entry stuff there.

I was replying to a comment made deciding the ultimate rule over the comment section, since you went back on your original decision. There is no irony, only discussion. Of which I'm still waiting for.

@Bob

People can and should take stuff like that to the forums but users have always made non-entry related posts (especially in fandom articles) too. Some people just prefer the comments sections. Why is that worth a warning all of a sudden, especially when the very rule you cited:

Says nothing to the effect of "if you make a non-article related comment on an article ur gunna be in trouble lol".

Yeah, it really does not seem like any of us broke that rule
Our comments were relevant to the topic

Why have we not come to a clear decision on this yet? We've had two years of GG comment drama to find some sort of resolution.

Either you lock the comments and direct everyone trying to discuss GG to the relevant forum threads, or leave the comments open and don't complain when people post and you did nothing to stop them. That's all there is to it.

Is no one going to say it?

"The mods must be crazy"

Sorry couldn't help myself.
Anyway in the discussion about Gamergate rather than how the Gamergate KYM commenting area is handled in both forum and on the article (which has to do with trending…)

Brianna Wu remembers the old war back in the glory days of 4chan before Gamergate came along and ruined the sanctity of /vg. (Man, that was hard to type with a straight face) Some how Gamergate is responsible for squashing freedom of expression now?

Follow up to gamergate article from earlier

This thread IS the decision. It's doing its thing and a comment every now and then was fine. Sure you had to redirect folks every now and then as was expected, but nobody really complained.

So unless you see me directly post "the warnings are staying", just assume they'll be removed one of these days. Bob went overkill here, I think we at least got that consensus.

I remember the first GG lock. I made my current Reddit account to go into KotakuInAction to try to explain the lock to them when it happened. I actually went and found that thread by accident, what a neat look into the past Anyway…

If I recall, the problem with the GamerGate entry and the reason the comments were disabled momentarily in the first place was not because it never stopped trending or that people were debating and arguing in the comments (for goodness sake, they do that in every political entry's comments) but because people started using it as a sort of GamerGate meetup forum where people started talking about inane bullshit that had nothing to do with GG and even got as far as people posting comments telling what they did that day.

No one was on topic, it was used as a GamerGater hub, where if you were involved in the movement, could just post about their day or about news that had little to nothing to do with GG. There were even Witch Hunts going on. That is why the GG comment section was locked and the general discussion was moved to the Forums, to give GG the hub they wanted, but keep it out of the comments.

So long as the people commenting on the GG entry are on topic, not talking about their spaghetti dinner or planning a coup, I don't see why anyone commenting there needs a warning. Bob, I'm sure I speak for most of us when I say the sight of "GamerGate" in the trending bar fills us all with dread and gives us Vietnam flashbacks to a darker time, but there is no reason to go abuse crazy.

But that wasn't a comment every now and then. It was the same problem that has been going on for months. People having conversations that were tangentially related and mods doing nothing. Don't start spreading your ineptitude all over my duties just because you were too poor of a mod to do anything before. I refuse to be dragged down by you.

@Hrom

No, they weren't. Talking about getting a "GG president" in the white house is not really relevant to the entry unless you're honestly of the belief that Trump is a GG president, in which case I'd recommend getting your head evaluated.

Other than that, it was other nonsense not really related.

Someone hasn't been reading the news lately.

The mainstream media has been blaming gamergate for trump's election.

And someone hasn't been reading the comments lately. Your point is null.

The comments about it were not reporting on it, they were celebrating it. This should either be taken as ironic shitposting or someone who actually believes it's true. Either way, not the place for it.

I hope there's not a third.

But I digress:

The media is still reporting that gamergate ran Wu out of her home. I guess the FBI just don't mean anything any more. Apparently, judging by the Russian hacker business, the CIA is where its at now./s

Except nothing I say is shitposting. It's all entirely honest and true. Also, pitting people who don't like you as a "crew" is self-defeating. "Crew" implies at least a dichotomy.

Anyway, you're still being irrelevant. Get back on topic.
