My grandfather also fought in France and Italy. He was captured in Italy by the Americans. He was manning a bunker when some Americans came in and the first black man he ever saw pointed a gun at him and said "War is over for you". He was in English prison for 6 years. The English treated him like a dog, eating off the floor, beatings, the usual. He then emigrated to Canada. That's right, he fought in the Wehrmacht. He believed he was protecting his family and country, and had no choice like many others. He died in 2006 I think, I cant recall. Still had shrapnel in him too
