They're all so miserable. They would rather rant and whine about how oppressed they are rather than talk about how GG, which is interesting. They don't even congratulate him on the award. They're being petty, too.

So the long predicted video gaming crash may slowly be happening, but more along the lines of a deflating and only the stupid companies are getting caught up. To phrase it in a shortish way; the highest performing games of 2018 are not pay to win and those free games and games of a service have more or less perfected the cosmetic items business model.

The problem is that lootboxes and games as a service model have been more or less been perfected as a business model. The reason why this is bad for AAA gaming and AA gaming is this allows relatively small companies become the next big name.

After the 2007 economic recession we slowly saw AAA gaming into decline, the last couple of years we've seen a drastic decline because a lot of projects are not justifiable to have super high budgets. Spending $75 million on a budget for the most part isn't justifiable most of the time. What probably going to happen to online games is following the Fortnite model of the initial money invested into a game is sort of a investment into further development.

To phrase this another way: in say five years companies will spend $5 million dollars making the basic gameplay of a free to play online game then the money they earn from the cosmetic items they use to add in more stuff.

There is one fatal flaw to the model however. Multiplayer only and server based games die if no one plays them.

You see. There are tons of MMOs out there. But one, as a gamer, might play only one or two of each genre. For example, I love Warframe, and even though I am no longer playing League of Legends, Smite, Blade and Soul, Cosmic Break and Guild Wars 2. I will play them again in the future.

But, I got little interest in any other MMO, and actually I wouldn't play them daily. Warframe is my main.

On the other hand, single player and local multiplayer games have the advantage that you play one, complete the story or campaign, and move on. Or you organize a session with friends and play one, but the next meeting will require another.

Games such as Fortnite, Overwatch, Titanfall, and PUBG require an audience to exist, and if there is none, they leave the market. On the other hand let's say… Cuphead, Myst, and BlazBlue do not require immediate revenue. They could wait for a long time on a digital shelf until they hit it big without much loss.

That's what I kind of was getting at. AAA gaming has made a monster they're starting to regret having made. The reason why they're starting to regret this problem is they've perfected this shitty business model to such a perfection they can't compete against it.

It's like that part in Pokemon with Mewtwo where people dreamed of creating the most powerful being in existence and now that they have it's killing the people who created it.

Honestly I don't get why Alarkoz got a downvote honestly. The AAA video game industry was pushing "video games as a service" and now that other companies have realized they can put very little money into making a game initially as a investment and then use the revenue to expand upon it it's changing the video game industry.

Is this bad? Honestly at least it's not that pay to win crap. Do I like this? No because I kind of miss MMO's and such, but at the same time if it's a free game with cosmetic only items I can't really complain.

The one thing I do not like about this is that it's sadly having a effect on single player games. There's sadly a lot of idiots going "Well if online multiplayer games are free to play then why aren't single player games free?" While I think cheaper games are good, we're seeing cuts in the ways that aren't enjoyable. This part is just observation but I've been seeing a massive increase in $30 to $50 games the past two years, A lot of those cheaper games are trying to keep quality as high as a $60 game for $30 and it's kind of showing with a lot of cut content. If we see single player games go down to say $10 to $30 I'm going to miss the days of big expansive worlds in games.

If the whole "single player games are dying" narrative continues we're going to see a massive chunk of single player games being outright forced to have prices below $20.

I get the feeling the downvotes are for personal reasons. I spark controversy wherever I go, and even here some of my views on different matters are controversial.

You are right on many things. I would like to add a few things.

As stated before, the games as a service model is suicidal when imitated by everyone. Because only the top ten games will really see the proper result. But the actual threat is collusion.

I suspect "journalists" are colluded with those trying to push that model. And it is possible that the whole "death of singleplayer" is in fact a strategy. A lie repeated until it is true. I have seen so many of those recently I am tired of counting.

I suspect the single player industry is being fooled by journalists worldwide because most companies out of the Western market do not even know what journalists say is a lie. Their primary source of information are those liars.

Speaking of how the western AAA gaming industry is deflating because they chose suicidally stupid business models; apparently the reason why Japanese games are making their revengeance (/sorry /not sorry) is that a problem with western AAA gaming and western AA gaming is a lot of the bigger companies are getting structured to death.

The model the USA AAA gaming structurally is using is that if say you're a artist you never ever see the code or such. What most Japanese companies and a lot of indie companies do is that if you're a artist they'll teach you coding to some effect and if something goes bad it's a group effort to fix the problem.

To oversimplify: if making video games are like a factory the way the USA AAA gaming industry works is one person in the entire business knows how to fix the belt for the factory line, if he's out for the day your day is fucked. The way the Japanese and indie game industry works is that the person who knows how to fix the conveyor belt teaches multiply people how to fix it so that if the conveyor belt breaks it's not just one person fixing it; granted they're not as skilled as that person, but if there's a large group of people that somewhat understands it then the group can figure it out.

I've seen on a couple of websites who "totally aren't sjw's" claiming that only "sjw's play Japanese games". It's one of those "How do you do fellow kids" sorts of deals where the way they talk gives it away.

To be honest it's a little funny of a situation, you have people pretending to be anti-sjw calling for boycotts on a country's mass media while thinking people are too dumb to realize shit like calling something "problematic" or "misogynistic" isn't sjw buzzwords.

The latest episode of Darling in the Franxx basically talks about how anti-sexuality will eventually lead to countries manufacturing humans and oh boy are people not happy, countries like China are legitimately talking about potentially manufacturing humans to make up for low birth rates. The show has implied that up until this point the parasites are actual humans and that people in the plantations are fakes, but they went all in this episode.

The comments expressing their joy are really disgusting. He's not someone like Osama Bin Laden or Pablo Escobar. Criticizing a recently deceased person because you thought they were bad is one thing, but expressing happiness over that is pretty low. I can't tell all the details because it is something far too controversial, but let's say a man named Tom Grauer has said a few truth bombs, but also a few outlandish things. Okay, what I was able to find was pure insanity, save for one article that I didn't have the guts to click, which was about how the term "objectification" is bogus and was made to attack male sexuality. Given how it's almost exclusively used, I'd say he hit the nail on the head there.

Well looks like the AAA video game franchise has chosen it's hill to die on. Companies are outright ignoring Belgium's law on lootboxes, the ESA are saying it violates their rights and such.

This is just a personal opinion, but with how the AAA video game industry is choosing to die on this hill what I think in long run is going to happen is we'll see in the west companies separating their single player campaign from their multiplayer gamemodes, we're already seeing this. Some companies will even go so far as to turn their games into multiplayer only. Those multiplayer games will be literally game of the year as in it's popularity will last less than a year because there is only so much playing on a single map people can do before they get bored cough pubg cough

I don't think microtransactions or lootboxes will go away, rather what'll probably happen is there will be only say two or three multiplayer games that are popular a year but they'll be crazy popular to the point they're fucking everywhere but the downside is that since those games will be minimum budget with a limited number of maps people will get bored after a year.

I don't think we'll see a full on resurgence of single player games being #1 so much as companies ran by people who aren't retarded will realize the chances of making a multiplayer game that is that crazy profitable is very small and instead do their own thing. To use an analogy it's like gambling, sure one person wins the jackpot a month at a casino but the chances of it being you is almost nil.

Tldr; EA, Activision, etc are gambling with their companies' financial future and rather than cashing out while they're ahead they're going all in

Also it appears the narrarative is trying to make Elon and his followers look like an isis of hitlers

This is obviously opinion, but I think the lootbox and microtransaction craze may be coming to a end. Companies are resorting to suing each other simply because something new came out.

This isn't too related to gg, but it is relevant to having as a whole. Steam might not be around in ten years, how they've gotten rid of quality control is starting to have a serious negative impact on the industry now. Steam itself is having record breaking profits, BUT the median profits per game is going way down. The same thing that happened to the cellphone game market is now starting to happen to steam.

This is personal opinion but what I think is going to happen in the long run is big companies start self distribution because they can afford to.

Speaking of Valve they MIGHT start letting in porn. They got burned and now they're going "fuck it".

If this is because Valve won't stop a game being sold on Steam unless it was trollish or illegal, there's already some people thinking this will hurt Valve.

This is just personal opinion, but with how Valve was banning anime games then retracted it I think Gaben realized that a lot of the people pulling this shit were sjw's trying to co-opt his company. There's been several instances of this in the past where sjw's try and force themselves into being in control of companies.

There was long standing rumors that someone inside of Valve had been extremely biased against certain games and pushing a political agenda into what was allowed, but given how it's a closed company we could only see it whenever it spilled over. Over the past couple of years there's been several instances of games getting banned when nothing illegal or controversial was in the game, but because of the content it was obvious it was politically motivated.

This is obviously opinion, but what I think what happened was:

That is quite possible. We all know Valve is the kind of company that rarely cares about ideology. In fact Gabe Newell rarely enters into politics at all. Both Valve and Lard Gaben care mostly about profit, and will do whatever they feel will lead to higher profit. Needless to say Gaben is well aware sex sells, and that it is in fact the reduced amount of censorship on his platform compared to physical distribution that made it profitable.
Just like Notch is willing to speak in favor of us after going rich, Gaben is willing to not go on the unprofitable SJW bandwagon because he knows where the money is at.
