There's a Girl who's making a study about "Women and gaming" at my University (ugh), she didn't even know what GG was until, like, last week, and today she posted this link on her facebook:

and she's asking for "uncivilized discussion" on the subject, she doesn't seem to be full anti GG, and seems to be more interested on TFYC, please provide me with proof, counter-arguments and anything you have to say about it. (or not, in case the tumblr post happens to be right).

Well the first thing I need to remark is the date. This was made on September 20th, 2014, a bit over a year ago, so keep in mind some of the information (more specifically the information in the post you linked) here could be potentially outdated.

TheFineYoungCapitalists – lauded by #GamerGate as a pro-feminist game jam sabotaged by Zoe Quinn – is a crowdfunding shell designed to get work for Autobótika, a Bogotá-based transmedia design company. Also, it’s run by a man.
Essentially, TheFineYoungCapitalists ARE Autobótika.

Now how they say that TFYC are Autobotika is quite true. On TFYC's official website, near the bottom, they state:

We are Autobótika: a transmedia production company based in Bogotá and co-founded by Lola Barreto, Jose Orozco and Nicolás Coronado in 2009 although the name of Autobótika and its website, were created in 2007. With more than 25 years of experience combined, we have endeavoured projects and encouraged talented teams through the visual creation of engaging transmedia content.

So yes, that connection is true. Even TFYC's official Twitter account follows Autobotika's Twitter account, not to mention Autobotika's website contains the artwork for Afterlife Empire, the game that was successfully funded through TFYC's Indiegogo campaign. However, I've yet to find evidence of how the campaign was to get work at Autobotika.

Thanks to an obliquely designed website, it’s hard to find out just who TheFineYoungCapitalists are. Their staff page is essentially Autobótika’s minus any male staff, falsely suggesting that TheFineYoungCapitalists is run by women. However, due to his Soundcloud confession, an interview and a surreal tumblr post adressed to his father, we can clearly prove TheFineYoungCapitalists is run by Matthew Rappard, Autobótika’s Canadian producer.

While Matthew has claimed on Twitter to have never been paid or to have owned stock in Autobótika, he is clearly listed as their Canadian producer. He is affiliated. He benefits.

Now due to the fact that Autobotika doesn't contain a staff page, it can be hard to tell who is on the staff other than those listed on TFYC's website, but I did look into Matthew Rappard, who according to this profile he does work at Autobotika. This is however, the only profile I could find regarding the guy however, but in my opinion, I think it's safe to assume that if he's with TFYC, he's most likely with Autobotika.

Matthew Rappard has been complicit in the harassment of Zoe Quinn, claiming that she DDoSed his website and that she is still formally with Dames Making Games. This is not true.
What IS true is that Matthew would NEVER have hit his crowdfunding targets without the systematic and criminal harassment of Zoe Quinn – he asked for $65,000 and is sitting at $69,058 as I link this, with 4chan claiming donations of $23,500. Charity funding and royalties currently ONLY kick in once Autobotika’s salaries are paid – and Autobótika are running the show.

Now I'm going to be perfectly honest: I don't know if Matt harassed Zoe, so I'm going to skip this and move straight to the pastebin. Now i could trust the pastebin posted here, but unfortunately it does not cite any information at all whatsoever as this functions as more of a rebuttal to TFYC's claims, but I decided to do my own digging. According to the Gamergate wikia, it states that her PR manager was Maya Kramer, however the pastebin suggests otherwise stating "there is no reason to assume that Maya Kramer ever had a professional connection with her."

The second section of the pastebin says how Matt was doxxed by Zoe/Maya when in reality they were posting about something Matt posted on his personal facebook, but the tweet Aerox made which was linked from Kramer's tweet has been deleted. Judging by the tweet TFYC made, it seems to suggest so that this happened.

I don't plan on touching this third section mainly because it will open up an old rabbit hole and I'm not very familiar with this subject.

The fourth section talks about the DDoS attack that TFYC's website received. Now to be perfectly honest, I have no idea as to how many followers she had in September 2014, nor do I know how many followers she has today mainly because I'm blocked. So I can't really say about whether or not the server TFYC were running was of poor quality or if her followers actually flooded the site.

I'm just going to leave this reply as it is because I've spent at least 2 hours looking most of the content in this reply up.

Follow the money. The main beneficiary of #GamerGate is Autobótika. The representative of Autobótika in Canada and #GamerGate both is Matthew Rappard. They have benefited from a crusade to destroy Zoe Quinn. Incidentally, Autobótika do not list full game development on their services page, only aspects, which seems somewhat dubious – is all this money going on a first effort?

Now that last part is true. The only difference is that there is nothing on Autobotika's website regarding or referencing Afterlife Empire in the first place, only artwork of the game on a ticker slideshow on their home page. However, TFYC seem to claim otherwise that the money will be donated to charity.

I'm gonna leave it at that since it's about 1am where I'm at, but overall, I'd suggest looking at this from both sides and see what you can come up with. I also apologize for this long as hell post.

IIRC that's a reason why someone on here was actually excited about the book and movie. Laying it out as a full narrative requires toning it down considerably (but then having her name on that as the official version) or going for the gusto but leaving a solid record that can be the basis for a lawsuit.

Journalistic Footnote: I will probably be buying this game once it hits shelves as in my experience Double Fine Games have made me smile in the past as I play games for the storyline and content, and I appreciate the concept once the game has been completed.

Which is why it's never going to be made.

First off the book needs to be made and Zoe is lazy, that can easily be solved with a ghostwriter but what can't be solved is that Zoe is never going to put her name on anything that doesn't make her out as a flawless victim & Eron a literal demon. That would pole-vault the line into defamation.

Cernovich provides a great explanation of why defamation lawsuits are not usually made & why in this case they are a good idea.

Calling those statements an attwck is like calling opening a door for a women misogyny. It's different opinions, people are allowed to have them, and if saying I don't agree is enough to constitute attacks then im sorry, but you're the ones being overly sensitive.

So Gone Home (y'all remember that game?) is being released on consoles. A decent amount of the comments are negative, usually saying its not a game or that is isn't very good due to how short it is.

Just for the record, I actually do consider Gone Home a video game.. It's just one that puts alot of emphasis on it's story.

It's awful, awful story and unsympathetic characters.

I agree it's a game. I've never played it, but it does not sound particularly fun to me. Plus, it seems to be overpriced.

Well this game basically pulled a bait and switch on you. It was first billed as a mystery game. Creepy house, everyone's gone without a trace, and now you have to investigate.

Then it turned into an ABC Family movie.

Gone home is a game, a boring game in which nothing happens. But it is a game. If it's priced higher then 8.99, I'd say that it's also a highly overpriced game. I used to be all in that it's not a game, but i think that's really disingenuous now.

Gaming is big enough that all kinds of games can exist. But that doesn't excuse that the game, when you boil it down, plays like a PSA.

And is thus proclaimed as one of the best games ever by people that are most likely to stand against GamerGate because they're those Artsy Fartsy "We're going to fix video games! We're developers, not gamers" crowd. I mean holy hell do I hate those guys who come in proclaiming to save video games with games like this thinking the Game industry well, needs to be saved. Only thing the Game industry needs to be "saved" are less yearly titles (Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty), NO micro transactions, less DLC (and by that I mean more of "The Citadel" DLC for games like Mass Effect 3 and less "Omega" DLC for games like Mass Effect 3). The one thing we DON'T need in the video game industry are people who have their heads so far up their asses that they think their games will singlehandedly save an industry but at the same time have such a sour and pretentious opinion on video games/gamers to the point where when they say "We're developers, not gamers" they immediately become the laughing stock of artists everywhere.

Because when was the last time we saw Spielberg say "I'm a director, not a fan of movies" am I right?

Also it was marketed as a survival horror game, it got a lot of great reviews due to connections/ideology (remember Polygon's "has a gay! 10/10" review?), and it cost $20 in a time before Steam refunds.

That's why an objectively speaking mediocre game has developed a reputation as the Second Coming of Superman 64.

If they're trying to misrepresent what happened ("Gerstmann gave a bad review to be shocking" vs. "Gerstmann gave a worse then expected, but still more positive then not review because he thinks it's a step down from the previous game's quality"), then I'd call that an "attack".

Of course, if he gave a lower score for things that just aren't true ("The Witcher 3 has a long cutscene declaring Hitler to be right, 3/10" for example) that would be different.

I feel like if they said it's because they're worried ratings boards like the ESRB or PEGI might bump the rating up past T or 13+ then I'd go "eh yeah they can be really weird about that stuff" (for example the PS2 Ratchet and Clank games were T rated in North America but yet 3+ in Europe), but this one strikes me as "you know if that's your reasoning then why not just COMPLETELY alter the special move then? Asses being slammed are still involved here."

To be fair, at the philosophical standpoint, the ESRB is entirely responsible for this as their formation was a result of moral outrage at mortal kombat (a game not for kids) and night trap (using evidence that was not true and involved complaining about non-existent sexual content). Thus ESRB set the precedent that you could get game censored just by yelling loudly.

Then again nobody blames the inventor of paper whenever they get a bad grade on a written test (i.e paper would need to exist for you to get graded on written assessment).

Still its funny how so much has changed and yet so little has actually changed in the mentality of moral outrage culture.

And now I'm getting Dead Space 3 flashbacks, those wounds still haven't healed. It says something that every time I hear that line it fills me with dread It does make some sense for Capcom to do this, their games haven't been doing that well lately, so jumping the gun on everything that "might" hurt sales sounds about right.

Granted, this is a game about beating up people and the earlier installments got T just fine. Hell, Ace Attorney is a game about murder trials and those mostly get T as well.

So let us watch as the major game companies all turn into EA and everything we love burns.

This is what happens when you rely on people under 25 to be your sources on a over 40 year old industry, and don't bother to do research yourself.

They get a lot about gamergate wrong, and ignore all the threats and abuse it's received by pretending Social Justice Warriors simply don't exist. But, that's a small piece of a bigger myth it perpetrates.

The myth is that the industry for video games and the history of video games and the culture of video games have never been open to women until now. But, that's a blatant falsehood when you consider the amount of woman who have had success in creating games, helping to write and develop games, and have always been a part of gamings base. The 90's did go into a much more edge lord style of marketing that attracted men over woman, but that quickly broke in about 2004, and it was, at most, a passing trend just like Grunge and content that would now be considered cringeworthy.

But, most of these people were only alive for that period in the 90's, and don't bother to think that culture could change from how it was when they grew up. Most of the sources think they're doing something revolutionary, that by making players play games they don't want to play, and by stopping gamers from "making games they want to make", they're helping to include more woman into gaming. Because woman's taste in gaming are so radically different from men's that there's no way that any current games could possibly appeal to them. Only point and clicks or super soft and cutesy games appeal to the female gender? It's an arrogance, and vanity, that is mared in the current generations of messiah complex weilding indie devs.

They talked to one person who actually did go through more then just 1 cringe decade, and they had a much more open mindset. They liked playing games, but the enviroment from the marketing campaign of "EXTREME SOLIDER OF PAIN INSIDE REBELLION 2: OW THE EDGE" that marked the early generations of Xbox and Playstation, and starting with SEGA, made a lot of people somewhat assholes. There was one point that I rolled my eyes, a story about a store clerk being a jerk which surprise, store clerks can often be jerks to anyone regardless of gender. But I digress, her point was that the marketing for games should change to reflect more players, and perhaps that games should have more female characters.

But, it's an interesting point about marketing. Marketing is the most useless of all the aspects of a game, and I loath it myself. A game can have masterful marketing and be shit, look at Evolve. But a game can have crappy marketing and be a huge hit, look at Star Wars Battlefront. For me, Marketing is just a game of lies, but it apparently for some shapes the perception they have of gaming. Kinda stupid to believe, but certainly I can see enough dumb and young people thinking something if they're told it enough time, look at all those young indie devs claiming their the saviors of gaming.

What do you guys think? Do you think marketing should be changed in order to be more inclusive rather then the games themselves? Do you think that if that was the case there'd be less cringeworthy pre-teens on xbox live and twitch chat asking for girls to flash their tits? IDK myself, but it was the one point that stood at as somewhat reasonable, rather then the flood of hyperbole, bias, and general self-falating that was this article.

Well I'll play Devil's Advocate here and say this, Ono's quote still can be attributed to the ESRB. By saying he wants the "highest possible number of people to play" that can be related to the games rating. M ratings restrict who can buy as stores are required to see ID of those purchasing M rated games, but T rated ones require no sort of ID checking, so while an 11 year old couldn't buy an M rated game (by themselves at least) they could buy a T rated one. And the "uncomfortable" comment could also be attributed more to parents than anything, because hey aren't "soccer moms" the original "neo puritans"? (people who get angry at the sight of any sexuality, no matter how small)
