About

Glimpse of Us is a song released by Internet icon and former YouTuber Joji, the content creator formerly known as Filthy Frank. The song, his first full length release in over a year, is used primarily in memes and videos relating to sadge feelings and SadBoy culture.

Origin

On June 10th, 2022, Joji's official YouTube[1] channel released the music video for Glimpse of Us, which became an instant hit and went on to get over 11.1 million views in 11 days, while also sparking numerous discussions on social media about the video's destitute and ramshackle lifestyle portrayal (shown below).

Spread

Prior to the official release on YouTube, there were already TikTok accounts using audio snippets to create videos, and getting high numbers for them. One of the earliest examples of an early case use for Glimpse of Us came from the TikTokker MasterChiefin[2], who created a video in which she's being stalked by a boy set to the song's bridge on June 6th, 2022, and earning over 1.5 million likes in the process (shown below).

After the widespread release and initial push for the song, other TikTok users began to use it in a more traditional way, using it in the intended emotion to portray sad feelings and emotions. The audio sample of the song on TikTok[3] has over 400,000 videos made using it, with the most liked and viewed one being from the TikTokker coolinso[4], who used it in a TikTok showing The Boys all emotionally sad while it plays, earning over 3.5 million likes in three days (shown below).
