About
Average Fan vs. Average Enjoyer refers to a meme format that negatively compares fans of a certain thing to fans of another thing, usually ironically, referring to the latter as "enjoyers" or "appreciators." The format is based on photographs of two people who fall within the archetypes of Soyboy and a Chad and bears resemblances to Virgin vs. Chad and Yes Chad meme formats.
In February 2021, the format gained association with the song "Can You Feel My Heart" by Bring Me the Horizon.
Origin
The format utilizes two photographs: a still image from a video by YouTuber James' YouNiverse (shown below, left) and a viral photograph of Iranian influencer Saman Ghasemzadeh, a member of the informal "Rich Kids of Tehran" clique, who had supposedly undergone plastic surgery to attain chiseled facial features (also known as Zara Boss; shown below, right). Both photographs saw use as reaction images online,[1][2][3] being associated with the Soyboy and Chad archetypes, respectively.
On September 30th, 2019, Twitter[4] user @ocenotvevo posted the first meme that combined the images, captioning them "Average space travel enthusiast" and "average flat earther." The post received over 120 retweets and 600 likes in one year.
Spread
On October 18th, 2019, an unknown Redditor[9] posted the earliest found derivative of the format, a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure meme, to /r/Animemes (shown below, left).
The format did not see further spread until on November 2nd, 2019, iFunny[5] user breastwart posted the first viral derivative version of the format, changing Chad's caption to "average ocean appreciator." The meme (shown below, right) gained over 2,000 smiles in nine months and received viral spread online with multiple reposts on iFunny,[6][7] Facebook, Tumblr[8] and Twitter in the following months.
Prior to June 2020, the format saw limited spread online, with several viral examples being posted on Facebook[10][11] during that period. On June 9th, Twitter[12] user @snackoon posted a version of the meme captioned "weed smokers" and "bread and oil enjoyers" (shown below). The Post received over 270 retweets and 700 likes and was widely circulated online in the following weeks.
Prior to July 10th, an unknown user posted a version of the meme that humorously compared "apple eaters" and "pear enjoyers" (shown below).[15] The meme received viral spread with multiple reposts on Facebook,[12] Twitter,[13] Reddit[14] and other platforms in the following days.
Following the viral spread of the meme, the format gained viral spread online, with multiple notable examples being posted on all major online platforms starting in late July 2020.
Can You Feel My Heart Edits
"Can You Feel My Heart" is a 2013 song by British metalcore band Bring Me the Horizon. In January 2021, the song gained popularity on TikTok as a sound effect in videos and was later used in Average Fan vs. Average Enjoyer memes.

Also on that day, Twitter[17] account @TheFunny_mp4 reposted the video, with the meme gaining over 467,000 views, 8,200 retweets and 46,900 likes.
On February 7th, 2021, content creator Socialism Done Left made a version of the meme that gained over 190,000 views on YouTube[18] and 134,000 views on Twitter[19] in one month (shown below). The video features sped-up video "itzmefraz episode 7" by YouTube[23] user itz me Fraz as "fan" and a slideshow of GigaChad images as "enjoyer." Also on the same day, Socialism Done Left uploaded a template for the meme to Twitter[20] and Google Drive.[21]
Itz Me Fraz' Video
The clip used as "fan" is a sped-up version of December 2018 video "itsmefraz episode 7" by YouTuber[23] and Instagram[24] user itz me fraz. In the video, itz me fraz complains about his videos being deleted from Instagram and jokes that he will be changing the style of his videos. He then proceeds to showcase how his videos will be styled from now on, cursing at the camera (video shown below). The video did not see popularity until it's use in the meme format, and gained over 130,000 views on YouTube as of July 15th, 2021 (Instagram post no longer available).
