Pixar, also known as Pixar Animation Studios, is an American computer animation film studio best known for its CGI-animated feature films. The studio is based in Emeryville, California. Since the release of its debut feature film Toy Story in 1995, the studio has garnered a large online fanbase for its commercially successful and critically acclaimed production history, as well as its innovative breakthroughs in CGI animation and storytelling.

History

Pixar was founded as The Graphics Group in year 1979. It was one third of Computer Division of Lucasfilm. They produced the unreleased experimental film called The Works. The team worked on special effects film sequences with Industrial Light & Magic in year 1982. The group, which then numbered forty individuals, was created as a corporation with the financial help of Steve Jobs after he was fired from Apple Inc. In year 1986, a short computer animated film called Luxo Jr., which was directed by John Lasseter. It was the first animated film after after Ed Catmull and John Lasseter left Industrial Light and Magic. The film is also the source for Pixar's iconic logo. Their first feature length movie, Toy Story, was released in 1995, which is notable for being the first computer animated feature film ever created. The success of Toy Story resulted in Pixar building a new studio in Emeryville and it opened in year 2000.

Disney Acquisition

In May 2006, Pixar was acquired by its longtime collaborator and partner studio Disney agreed for approximately $7.4 billion in an all-stock deal. Despite the acquisition, the deal ensued that the studio remains a separate entity under the post-merger brand name Disney-Pixar and continues operations from its offices in Emeryville, California.

As of 2015, Pixar has produced 15 feature-length animated films, 17 original and 10 spin-off short films, in addition to more than a dozen of short series based on popular franchises like Cars and Toy Story.

Toy Story

Toy Story is a CGI animated film series about the secret lives of children's toys that come to life when they are alone. The trilogy consists of Toy Story (1995), Toy Story 2 (1999), and Toy Story 3. Toy Story was the first feature-length computer-animated film ever. It was also the first film produced by Pixar.Toy Story was released on November 22nd, 1995. The film stars the voices of Tom Hanks as toy sheriff Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear. Toy Story 2 was released on November 24, 1999 and Toy Story 3 was released on June 18th, 2010.

Pixar Intro Remakes

Pixar Intro Remakes are parodies and remixes of the animation studio's iconic introduction sequence showing a lamp character named Luxo Jr.[1] jumping over the top of each letter in the company's logo.

The Pixar Theory is a hypothesis which posits that every movie produced by Pixar Animation Studios[1] exists within the same universe in a linear timeline. The notion was first popularized in July 2013 after blogger Jon Negroni fleshed out his theory on his personal website.
