Me Shooting My Shot, Shoot My Shot or Nick Young Miss refers to a series of phrasal template memes using an image of American basketball player Nick Young celebrating a missed 3 points against the Knicks, during a 2014 match. A still image of the moment became a popular reaction image and GIF, being shared on Twitter / X, Instagram and Facebook.

Origin

On March 26th, 2014, during the Lakers vs. Knicks basketball game, the Larker's player Nick Young prematurely celebrated a three-pointer that wound up missing at the end of the match. The moment was posted on YouTube^[1] by user @beyondthebuzzercom (shown below), amassing over 1.6 million views and 4,300 likes in nine years.

Young's missed point celebration became a popular reaction image and gif. For instance, on August 28th, 2022, Tenor^[2] user @nba000 posted a GIF version of the basketball player moment (shown below, left) paired with the overlay text "Nailed bro." On June 28th, 2020, Tenor^[3] user thomas4293 shared the same clip paired with the overlay text "Another tweet, another L" (shown below, right).

Other versions of using the phrasal template "me shooting my shot" have also been posted on social media, using images of basketball players. For example, on December 10th, 2020, the Facebook^[4] page @NBAMemes posted an image of Shaquille O'Neal (shown below, left) paired with the caption "me shooting my shot in my crush's DM," garnering more than 10,000 likes and 1,900 shares in three years. On May 6th, 2021, Redditor^[5] u/JustExisting09 used Young's still image paired with a screenshot of a message sent to billionaire Bill Gates (shown below, right), amassing over 76 upvotes and 5 comments in two years.
