Sephiroth In Every Video Game is a series of memes in which Final Fantasy VII antagonist Sephiroth is edited into other video games. The meme was popularized on X / Twitter in March 2024 after X user @eyebrowpillar posted, "I think Sephiroth should be in every video game." The tweet also inspired another user to post "I think sephiroth should be in every VTuber debut," inspiring similar edits. The meme is similar in concept to the Mario and Luigi vs. Sephiroth memes.

Origin

On March 17th, 2024, X^[1] user @eyebrowpillar posted, "I think sephiroth should be in every video game," garnering over 12,000 likes and 4,700 reposts in three days (shown below).

Spread

The post inspired numerous edits, including photoshops and video edits, of Sephiroth in video games outside the Final Fantasy series.

For example, on March 18th, 2024, X^[2] user @strataven posted a photoshop of Sephiroth in the game Mystic Messenger, garnering over 15,000 likes in two days. Later that day, X^[3] user @strifvs posted a photoshop of Sephiroth in Papa's Pizzeria, garnering over 9,000 likes in the same span of time (shown below, left).

Also on March 18th, X^[4] user @Imjayohkay posted a photoshop of Sephiroth in Persona 5, garnering over 15,000 likes in the same span of time (shown below, right).

Later that same day, X^[5] user @sephirooths then posted a video of Sephiroth on fire in The Sims, garnering over 50,000 likes in two days (shown below). A thread was started on ResetEra^[12] that day to share the memes.

On March 19th, 2024, X^[6] user @Jun_on_Fire posted a photoshop of Sephiroth peering out of a manhole from Yakuza 0, garnering over 17,000 likes in a day (shown below, left). Later that day, X^[7] user @camrymel posted an image of a Sephiroth penguin in Club Penguin, garnering over 50,000 likes in a day (shown below, right).

That day, USA Today^[8] notably reported on the meme as it continued to spread on social media.

Sephiroth In Every VTuber Debut

On March 20th, 2024, inspired by the "Sephiroth in every video game" post, X^[9] user @shu_yamino posted, "I think sephiroth should be in every vtuber debut," garnering over 5,700 likes and 600 reposts in under a day. Similarly, the post inspired numerous edits on X^[10][11] of Sephiroth in VTuber debut videos (notable examples shown below).
