"MOOT IS OLEV"
Part of a series on 4chan. [View Related Entries]
About
On Tuesday, December 28th, at approximately 12:34 AM Central Time, the title bar for 4chan's /b/ board was changed to:
"MOOT IS OLEV
OLEV IS MOOT
MOOT IS OLEV
OLEV IS MOOT
MOOT IS OLEV
OLEV IS MOOT
MOOT IS OLEV
OLEV IS MOOT
MOOT IS OLEV
OLEV IS MOOT"
As /b/tards struggled to understand this bewildering headline involving moot, another bizarre occurrence took place. Several minutes after the appearance of the "OLEV IS MOOT" manifesto, /b/ board was loop-embedded with the popular country folk song "Cotton-Eyed Joe."
Change in Color Scheme
Shortly thereafter, /b/ was struck by perhaps the most disorienting change yet, as /b/'s usual pastel-color scheme was changed to an eye-searing tableau of cyan text over bright red boxes on a canary yellow background. At about 1:15 AM, or ~40 minutes after the first manifestations, 4chan.org went offline, probably as a result of a DDoS attack. By late in the morning, however, 4chan was back online.
Developing Now
Details are still quite sketchy. Some oldfags have claimed that OLEV was a notorious spammer who would clog up camwhoring threads by repeatedly demanding that people write "OLEV" on their bodies and post pictures.
Much talk has been made of the fact that OLEV is an anagram of LOVE, and has been hypothesized to represent a general outpouring of affection to cam whores from their viewers. Public opinion is currently split between the possibility that Moot is being prankish and the possibility that someone, possibly the mysterious OLEV, may have hacked 4chan.
Within 12 hours of the original incident, the meme-in-progress had jumped to Tumblr, as do most memes originating on /b/. The reaction from the residents of Tumblr has so far been mixed between glee at the DDoS'ing of 4chan and general confusion.
Restoration
By the end of December 29th, /b/ had returned to its usual coloration and lack of music. Cotton-Eyed Joe's sole gift to posterity was in /b/'s title bar:
"RIP Cotton Eye Jim
2007-2010"
