On September 11th, 2024, Australian Senator Fatima Payman addressed[1] the "sigmas of Australia" during a two-minute speech at the Parliament House in which she said the government is filled with "cap-aholics" and "yap-aholics." The Guardian posted the Senator's full statement (seen below), amassing more than 24,000 views and 630 likes in a day.
According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation,[2] Payman's speech was written by her 21-year-old policy advisor, Ezra Isma, who said that he "wouldn't necessarily use such language earnestly outside the chamber."

The Australian Senator's Gen Z-inspired speech quickly went viral on social media, with some people praising Payman for addressing a trending language with the younger generations while others felt the statement was cringe.
For example, on September 11th, 2024, the TikTok[3] page @6newsau posted a captioned version of the Senator's speech (seen below), amassing over 14 million plays and 2 million likes in a day.

On the same day, YouTube[4] user @amphooo reacted to the Australian Senator's brainrot speech (seen below), receiving roughly 1,300 views and 60 likes in a day.
Fatima Payman's speech was also spread on Reddit in mid-September 2024, with many of the threads criticizing it or perceiving it as cringeworthy.[5][6]
