Since it's premiere in April 2013, NBC's Hannibal_ has attracted a pretty serious fandom on Tumblr. The series is based on _Red Dragon, the 1981 novel by Thomas Harris featuring the debut appearance of Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

Anyone know anything about it / involved in it?

I was waiting for this. While I wouldn't consider my self part of the fandom, I absolutely love the show.

The gay cannibal fiction mentioned above would be Hannigram, which is a ship between the two main characters, Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham. That ship is going to sink if they manage to get to the Red Dragon story in the show.

There's also a joke among the fandom about how Will and Hannibal are acting like Abigail Hobbes' father.
There is also some pretty hilarious fan art

Another joke in the fandom seems to be "This is my design" which is a phrase Will says when recreating the murders he investigates in his head.

I m not surprised that there is a large fanbase on Tumblr of this, especially with the fact being that they also like Sherlock in the same kind of way too…

Did you know that the actor who play 'Lecter is Danish?

Not that…

I would know…

I'm probably gonna get some flak for this, but I hated the show – gave up after the first 3 eps.
Couldn't stand the fact that it takes itself far too seriously and thinks it's a helluva lot cleverer than it is.
Had it have taken the trashy/tacky approach (like Bates Motel did) I'd have probably loved it

Here you go

While I understand why the trashy/tacky style is enjoyable (I have a pretty broad range of tastes, so I enjoy both ends of the spectrum), I don't think it would work with a character like Hannibal Lecter, who prides himself on refinement and classiness. Also, how is Bates Motel? I've been meaning to watch, but haven't had the chance.

I thought Bates Motel was going to be terrible after I found out that they'd brought it all up to date, but I was suprised by how much it entertained me. Kind of seedy, pretty trashy, with just enough plot points to tie it to the original Psycho.

Re my remarks about not enjoying Hannibal – I don't just enjoy trashy tv; I'm a massive fan of Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Dexter and a whole host of other undeniably brilliantly written shows… Hannibal isn't particularly well written yet has the gloss of something far superior to the sum of its parts – that's what I couldn't stand about it. Had it have lodged it's tongue firmly in it's cheek throughout it's ridiculousness would've been palatable (the Kevin Bacon show The Following is another good example of being ridiculous yet watchable due to not taking itself too seriously).

Okay, can we get back to discussing the parts of this show that have spread through the fandom? You can make a thread in General if you really want to discuss the show itself.
