8-bit trip video on the rise

In only about 3 days, this video has close to 1 million views. It's been spreading all over. I'm not going to call meme on it yet, but it's definitely something worth watching. I'd be surprised if this doesn't inspire a lot of imitations.

Then again, the sheer amount of effort involved in creating a video like this might intimidate some.

And how did I come to find that this was popping up on so many different sites? How did it first catch my attention?
Because of Magma.
http://www.mag.ma

Full disclosure: even though I'm Rocketboom staff, and Magma was developed by Rocketboom, this is one of those projects that I'm honored to be listed as "Staff" on the page, but I've had nothing to do with it's development. Magma is all Gleuch, Andrew, Jamie, Kenyatta and Todd. (and I think Ellie?)

Anyway, Magma has been under private beta for a while, but it just went public last night, so head over to http://www.mag.ma and sign up to be able to find the most popular videos from all over the web. It's pretty damned cool.

That video has got to be one of the coolest videos I have ever seen in my life. That's some pretty arduous work that "rymdreglage" did there. It would be awesome to seem more derivatives of this.

P.S. Chris, your links all link back to this page except for the Magma one.

I love Steven Wright.

"I've been doing a lot of abstract painting lately, extremely abstract. No brush, no paint, no canvas, I just think about it."

I lolled when the old guy was playing the electric guitar in front of a fake giant stereo in the snow with nothing but massive foot warmers, a fox skin scarf, and his underwear on! This is why I love the Swedes! They think up the craziest awesome stuff evar! I shall now go out and randomly dance the Caramelldansen with my friends. Excuse me…
