As I mentioned, I have an almost all female party of adventures I game master for. One of the players is my 25 year old daughter. She has been playing since 7 and over time she has brought her various boyfriends over to play. Most recently she wanted to bring over a young man who I met and, as much as he is a buff physical specimen, I wasn't overwhelmed by his INT. I told her that every time she brings over a boy and he plays, she winds up breaking up with him. She agreed and told me that the reason why was because that's how she vetted them. How they acted in the game was their "true nature" and Southern California boys front too much. The young man played a barbarian (thought that would be easy) and during the course of the adventure they came to a watery cave and the female magic users wound up battling an aboleth who was guarding a fabulous pearl the size of a bowling ball. She called for him to help the melee but he ran into the room and instead of bashing, he stole the pearl and ran away instead of helping her and her party kill the monster. I could see it in her cold stare when everyone went quiet. He was asking if he could do that. The party killed off the monster and we ended that session. Needless to say, Gorg wasn't coming back. I personally have had experience with players getting so immersed they react as themselves, often revealing dysfunctional or sociopathic behavior, even though they should be role playing. Have you had any experience with this in your game? Do you feel people act out stressful situations more like themselves?

Scrimmybinguscat 10h 1e Lich immediately casts Erase on the Wizard's spellbook, then casts Caligarde's Claw to slash up the party, Beltyn's Burning Blood which makes them all start bleeding corrosive acid, then Grimwald's Greymantle to make them unable to be healed, after which the Lich teleports away with Gemjump to Gods know where, but not after Summoning a Glabrezu with the Cacodemon spell to finish them off. 3.5e Lich just casts some sort of Instant Silent Disjunction spell on the party before triggering their contingency pre-prepared 44th Level Abomination of a spell that causes a massive explosion of living hellfire that freezes everything touches and burns them at the same time, and deals 60D6 damage across three damage types to everything in a 12-mile radius, and reaches into the ethereal plane, and sends everyone flying for many miles dealing an extra D6 of bludgeoning for every 10 feet each victim is thrown for thousands of extra points of damage. And also everyone that is killed turns into wights too for good measure. And it happens in the past and acts retroactively so the Lich is also casting it from the future where they are safe.
