About

The Vagineer is a character used in Garry's Mod and Source Filmmaker videos based on the Engineer from the video game Team Fortress 2. Characteristics of the Vagineer include a human vagina for a mouth, talking in reverse and growling, and the ability to fire off and regrow limbs. The Vagineer is similar to other fan-inspired "TF2 Freak" characters such as Painis Cupcake.

Origin

On December 31st, 2008, YouTuber^[2] J16FOX2 uploaded a video titled, "Engineer havin' a good time" in which an Engineer character model from Team Fortress 2 with a comically dropped jaw bobs up and down (shown below). The video garnered over 21,000 views in 12 years.

Although the word "vagineer" is not featured anywhere in the video, this is considered the origin of the character, which is the earliest known "TF2 Freak Character," a category of fan-made characters that appear in surreal and disturbing Garry's Mod and Source Filmmaker videos. The vagina-like face is made with the Garry's Mod Faceposer tool.^[1]

On April 19th, 2009, YouTuber^[3] Bluebajs uploaded a video titled, "NEED DISPENSER RIGHT HERE" featuring an Engineer with a similar mouth to the one shown in J16FOX2's, although more closely resembling a vagina (shown below). Following this video, people began referring to the character as the Vagineer in following videos featuring the character, expanding on its lore. The video gained over 77,800 views in 11 years.

Spread

On June 11th, 2009, YouTuber^[4] and creator of the Vagineer uploaded a video titled, "THAT DOG'S A SPAH" featuring the Vagineer, garnering over 191,000 views in 11 years (shown below).

The Vagineer has inspired a number of popular Garry's Mod and Source Filmmaker videos and series. For example, on June 9th, 2011, YouTuber^[8] CanaMavrick uploaded a video titled, "What happens if you try to backstab vagineer" to YouTube, becoming the most popular vagineer video on YouTube and garnering over 1.5 million views in 10 years (shown below, left).

On May 6th, 2012, YouTuber^[9] SarisKhan uploaded a video titled, "Operation: Vagineer," the final part in their "Versus Vagineer" series, garnering over 804,000 views in roughly nine years (shown below, right).

Each video featuring the Vagineer is meant to expand on its lore. A full list of the Vagineer's confirmed "abilities" is available on the character's Fandom^[12] page, including limb removal, the ability to give other characters vagina mouths, and super strength.

Vagineer Is Hungry Series

On February 4th, 2010, YouTuber^[5] jettan uploaded the first in a series of videos titled, "Vagineer is hungry," in which the Vagineer cannibalizes a number of other TF2 characters, garnering over 219,000 views in years (shown below).

On February 5th, jettan uploaded^[6] the second part of the series, garnering over 470,000 views in a comparable span of time (shown below, left). On August 28th he uploaded^[7] the third and final part, garnering over 240,000 views in a comparable span of time (shown below, right).

Snyphurr Series

On April 11th, 2010, YouTuber CloverNoodle began the popular "Snyphurr" series^[15] of Team Fortress 2 videos, heavily featuring the Vagineer and other TF2 freaks (examples shown below, left and right). The original uploads have since been removed, living on through reuploads on YouTube.^[13]^[14]

Fan Art

The Vagineer has inspired a significant amount of fan art since its creation. For example, on August 16th, 2015, Deviant Art^[11] user ATGF uploaded an image featuring a Vagineer car hybrid, garnering over 2,000 views in six years (shown below).

On September 26th, Deviant Art^[10] user Kugawattan uploaded an image of the Vagineer alongside the other TF2 freak characters, garnering over 1,000 views in a comparable span of time (shown below).
