The Cheese Grater Image, also known as the Cheese Grater Raccoon, is a reference to a picture of Fender, an anthropomorphic ferret-fox, who has an unknown partner using a cheese grater as an instrument of sexual gratification on him. It is often regarded and referenced within the furry community as "nightmare fuel".
Origin
On April 20th, 2007, e621 user Arcturus posted an image of an anthropomorphic "ferrox" (part ferret, part fox) named Fender, who is the official mascot of the popular furry fandom website Fur Affinity,[2] and an unknown partner using a cheese grater as a sexual instrument. However, it was originally uploaded on Fur Affinity by furry artist Cbee but was taken down. As of January 2018, the image has a score of -1344 (1629 downvotes).[1]
Spread
On July 15h, 2015, e621[7] user Commander_Eggplant posted an illustration of a fox holding a cheese grater above the caption "what are you afraid of? The post (shown below) has received more than 30 upvotes and 40 favorites in two-and-a-half years.
On December 12th, 2016, Redditor[3] palamema posted a three-panel meme, where a child shows her family the picture after watching a scene of SpongeBob using it. The post has received more than 97 points (93% upvoted) and 40 comments in a little over a year.
The following year, on August 15th, 2017, Redditor[4][5] MonoUnity posted a copypasta that references the picture in the /r/furrypasta and the /r/furry_irl subreddit. On the /4/furry_irl subreddit, the copypasta has received more than 70 points (80% upvoted) and 20 comments.
About one week later, the copypasta was used to answer a post regarding the image in the /r/OutOfTheLoop subreddit.[6]

The picture has the subtitles "the next video but my voice sounds like I'm being drowned by cheese graters." The image (shown below) received more than 180 points (96% upvoted) in one month.
