Scoob! is a 2020 direct-to-video animated film based on the Scooby-Doo franchise. The film follows the adventures of Scooby-Doo and the gang as they encounter Blue Falcon and assist him in thwarting the plans of his arch-rival Dick Dastardly.

History

On June 17th, 2014, Warner Bros.[1] announced plans for a reboot of the Scooby-Doo film series. On April 13th, 2016, the film was announced at CinemaCon! as S.C.O.O.B and set for a September 2018 release.[2]

On November 11th, 2019, the first trailer for 2020 film Scoob! was released by Warner Bros.,[3] gaining over 33 million views on YouTube in six months (shown below, left). On March 5th, 2020, the second trailer for the film premiered (shown below, right).[4]

In March 2020, the theatrical release of Scoob! was delayed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[5] The film was released direct-to-video on May 15th, 2020.[6]

Reception

The film received mixed critic reviews upon release, maintaining a 43 average critic score with 30 reviews and 6.1 user score on Metacritic as of May 18th, 2020.[7] On IMDB,[8] the film maintained a 6.1 user rating with over 3,260 votes. On Rotten Tomatoes,[9] the film had a 53% critic rating with 81 reviews and a 68% audience score.

During the release weekend, Scoob! was the top-rented film on Prime Video and iTunes Store.[10]

Fandom

The film has inspired both memes and fanart, with viral posts appearing on Reddit, Twitter and other platforms (examples shown below).
