About

Star Trek: The Next Generation Parodies are video parodies that are inspired by, or use clips from, the sci-fi television series Star Trek: The Next Generation. (See also Jean-Luc Picard, and Can't See Shit Captain)

Origin

The Picard video, featuring a song by artist DarkMateria, was uploaded to YouTube on September 6th, 2006. It has received over 1.4 million views as of May 2011.

Spread

On February 2nd, 2008, the YouTube account acornfilms uploaded a video with clips of scenes from Star Trek: TNG that were taken out of context to appear as if they were sexual in nature. According to the description field, they were originally put together by TNG's creator, Gene Roddenberry.

This is an expansion of a short set of clips that Gene Roddenberry had put together after the second season, that set was just about 2 minutes and mostly bloopers, but the few suggestive shots were enough to make me wonder what a full version would look like, so enjoy!

It has received over 900,000 views as of May 2011.

Jandrew Edits

[This video has been removed]

Jan Van den Hemel and MS Paint Adventures creator Andrew Hussie uploaded a number of Star Trek edits on the accounts Gazorra, Andrewhussie, and JawsNerdEdit. The first episode has been taken down due to copyright claims, and the earliest remaining episode is "The Next Generation episode 2 – beard on beard", uploaded on January 1rst, 2009. They continued to upload parody videos until June 30st, 2010, with the last video being "episode 37 Data's achievements". They were collected on the now defunct website Jandrew's Edits.[1]

According to Andrew Hussie:

These were edited by Jan Van den Hemel, who's obviously pretty awesome at this. I helped him make these by writing these sort of "scripts", suggesting how to arrange clips, what lines to dub, and what sort of visual effects to try out. I also usually supply the, uh, external resources. Jan supplies a lot of input to the "scripting" process too. The result I think is a pretty effective fusion of our senses of humor, but of course all the technical editing gravitas is pure Jan.

We will probably keep making these videos, as long as it stays fun. We'll keep doing Star Trek for a while, but will likely also try using samples from other TV shows and movies later.[2]

Wil Wheaton, who played the character of Wesley Crusher, wrote about episode 10 "It's Not Lupus" on his blog.[3] According to Hussie, Brent Spiner (Data) and Levar Burton (Geordi La Forge) have seen some of the videos as well.[4] A clip from an episode was featured on G4's Attack of the Show, with the presenters acting out scenes from the video.

TV Tropes has an entire entry dedicated to tropes related to Jandrew Edit videos.[5]

TNG Recut Series

[This video has been removed]

Starting from the year 2007 YouTube User GeneralGrin created and uploaded a series of TNG episodes.
These episodes not only include video- and sound-clips from the TNG series but also from other movies, serieses and videos. The series started as as collection of random jokes, but later in the series became an ongoing series, descriping the crew (and especially Captain Picard) as psychopaths

This series is considered to be NSFW, because it shows homosexual sex encounters between the crew.

DJO Dubs

YouTuber dayjoborchestra (DJO) uploaded the video "Acid Trek" on February 17th, 2009. The video consisted of incoherent babble dubbed over to match the lip movements of the characters. He has made several Star Trek parodies since.

Search queries for both "jandrewedits" and "dayjoborchestra" picked up around November-December of 2009.
