So We Finally Meet refers to a series of memes based on the ending of the demo version of the 2021 video game Resident Evil Village in which character Lady Dimitrescu opens a double door in front of the player and proceeds to grab and stab them. Following the popularity of Lady Dimitrescu memes in January 2021, the scene became source material for humorous edits.

Origin

On January 21st, 2021, the demo version of the upcoming 2021 survival horror video game Resident Evil Village was made available for PlayStation 5.[1] At the end of the demo, as the player opens the courtyard doors, character Lady Dimitrescu unexpectedly opens them from the other side and proceeds to grab the player and stab them with the long blades coming out of her fingers (video[2] shown below).

So we finally meet.

On the same day, Twitter[3] user @SunhiLegend posted a GIF based on the scene, with the tweet gaining over 10,000 retweets and 42,600 views in two weeks (shown below, left). In the same thread, Twitter[4] user @EgotisticRaichu posted the earliest found meme based on the scene, pairing the image of Lady Dimitrescu with a viral photograph of Kermit the Frog (tweet shown below, right). The tweet received over 1,300 retweets and 7,200 likes in two weeks

On January 22nd, 2021, Twitter[5] user @FloatingList_ posted a Fat Rat Being Grabbed version of the meme, with the post gaining over 4,700 retweets and 14,300 likes. Also on that day, YouTube[6][7] user Cloudie McDoom and Kawber posted two of the earliest video edits of the scene, gaining over 56,400 and 21,500 views in two weeks, respectively (shown below, left and right). Additonally, Cloudie McDoom's tweet[8] received over 108,000 views, 2,400 retweets and 11,000 likes in that period.

On January 23rd and 24th, YouTuber[9][10] kmlkmljkl posted two versions of the meme, both of which received over 130,000 views in two weeks (shown below, left and right).

Following the viral spread of the initial posts and the growing popularity of Lady Dimitrescu in memes in general, the trend continued to spread in the following days, with multiple viral versions being posted on YouTube, Twitter and Instagram.
