About
Shuric Scan refers to a series of YouTube Poop Music Videos based on Ryukenden, a tracker song created by tPORt member SofT MANiAC[1], more commonly known by the name Shuric Scan 1.99crk, referencing the name of the keygen the song was used in. The song is also a remixed version of the audio track Overdrive (also known as Battling Precariously) from TECMO's 1990 game for NES console Ninja Gaiden II.[2][3] Shuric Scan eventually became known for the high quantity of .veg replaces for the song, which are considered low quality by many.
Origin
The first YTPMV using the song was "Sheirik Scan NEGen", which was posted to YouTube by imflashmaker9985 on October 16th, 2009.[4] The video (shown below) received over 17,000 views in over 13 years.
Spread
Later, on July 22, 2010, Youtube user HispanicGiarsol would upload a video titled "roomscan (NO BGM)" to their channel (shown below, left), sampling Tommy Wiseau's film The Room which would gather 220,000 views in 13 years. Some time after this video's creation, the Sony Vegas file for the video would be leaked, allowing anyone who obtained the .veg file to quickly and easily replace the sample in the video with their own. On September 23rd, 2011, YouTube user edyneedsstp created video for a compilation of scans, and linked the .veg in the description (shown below, right). The .veg later went on to become highly used due to the simplicity of using it.
As the .veg file for roomscan began to spread, many users of the file would simply place their samples into the video and render without additional editing, resulting in many YTPMVs sounding off-key; as such, Shuric Scan has become a joke in the YTPMV community for being iconic of low quality videos with little to no effort made in regards to quality control[5]. One such example is the Logo Editing community, originally having been popularized from GoAnimate users making edits of animation and production company logos using Vegas effects. Due to the simplicity of using the .veg file, many users would place their logo video files into the template, resulting in large amounts of Shuric Scan YTPMVs based on these logos.[6] Two popular examples of this include "Klaskyklaskyklaskyklasky Shuric Scan" uploaded by Gheorghe Voda (shown below, left), which has gathered 392k views in 8 years, and "{YTPMV} 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment 1995 Scan", uploaded by TulipPrimaryMediaCorporation7900 (shown below, right), which has gathered 1.77 million views in 8 years.
