About
Sable Able is a hedgehog character from the Animal Crossing[1] series of video games from Nintendo, and first appeared in the original Japanese release of the game Animal Forest on April 14th, 2001 for Nintendo 64. She runs the in-game clothing shop "Able Sisters" along with her sister Mabel Able. She is the eldest of the three sisters, with Label being the middle child and Mabel being the youngest.
Origin
Sable Able first appears in the Able Sisters shop in Animal Crossing. At first, she will brush you if you try to talk to her, but after trying to talk to her after several days she will open up and talk with the player more. In some titles, this can unlock certain features such as the QR code sewing machine in New Leaf, or some free customization patterns in New Horizons.
Lore
Sable and her sisters, Mabel and Label were orphaned when Mabel Able was still just a young child. Shortly afterwards, Label ran away from home to pursue her own dreams leaving Sable to try to take care of Mabel all by herself. Sable did manage to, but Mabel wound up growing up to be a bit tomboyish. In Animal Crossing: City Folk, Label, now known as Labelle would be found by the player working at GracieGrace and eventually be convinced to reconcile her relationship with her two sisters. In her younger days, Sable had a close relationship with Tom Nook up until he left town to live in the city. Upon his return his attitude had changed, and his behavior had damaged their relationship.
Fan Reception
Sable was a popular comfort character in the early days of 4chan's /v/ board in the early to mid 2000's, up until characters from future installments, such as Labelle from City Folk and Isabelle from New Leaf started to take her place in that regard.
