Pizza Tower Ohio Rizz Gyatt is a series of Slang Overload memes that ironically combine together Gen Z internet slang and memes popular in late 2022 and early 2023, such as Ohio, Rizz, Gyatt, Pizza Tower and Big Chungus. Initially a series of images parodying Delet These / Erm… What the Deuce reaction images, the format gained popularity in mid-May 2023, with users posting seemingly nonsensical phrases consisting of the slang on Twitter and other social media.

Origin

In late February 2023, a trend of sharing over-the-top ironic versions of reaction images such as Erm… What the Deuce and This Does Not Mamma the Mia started gaining popularity on Twitter. The trend involved creating ironic memes by captioning overused meme formats such as Uncanny Mr. Incredible with captions conveying disapproval or shock and incorporating an exaggerated amount of poorly fitting Gen Z slang words. The exact origin of the trend is currently unconfirmed.

For example, on February 21st, 2023, Twitter^[1] user @DriftingMari reacted with one such meme to a tweet asking for a Nintendo Switch port of Genshin Impact (shown below, left). The tweet gained four retweets and over 60 likes in four months. Later that day, Twitter^[2] user @MeatbagMeta posted another ironic Slang Overload reaction image, which gained over 20 likes in the same amount of time (shown below, center). On February 26th, 2023, Twitter^[3] user @Nedduardo then shared a version that earned over 130 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).

Throughout March 2023, the images, including one notable version of This Isn't Even Popping Off What the Bruh meme featuring the character Peppino from the Pizza Tower video game (shown below, left),^[4] have been used as ironic reactions, with some users also commenting on the trend^[5][6] (example shown below, right).

On April 20th, 2023, Twitter^[7] user @lSlS_MEMBER tweeted a Bubble Bass' Order meme overloaded with Gen Z slang and memes such as Ohio, Huggy Wuggy, The Ocky Way, rizz, Nathaniel B and the Griddy, The post (shown below) received over 5,300 retweets and 32,300 likes in two months.

Through April and May 2023, more ironic What the Deuce / Delet This / This Does Not Mamma the Mia reaction images were created and shared online (example^[8] shown below, left), with users also sharing Slang Overload memes styled similarly to Damedaneposting. For example, on May 3rd, 2023, Twitter^[9] user @engifar_ shared one such tweet that accumulated over 100 retweets and 320 likes in one month (shown below, right).

On May 22nd, 2023, Twitter^[10] user @CursedMario commented on the trend, joking that the images were "a scheme organized by the government to sabotage its reputation to convince everyone that pizza tower is cringe." The tweet gained over 700 retweets and 6,600 likes in three weeks (tweet and image shown below, left and right).

Starting in late May 2023, the Slang Overload format achieved virality on Twitter. Most notably, in early June 2023, the Twitter account for the sketch comedy YouTube channel Ghetto Smosh tweeted^[11][12] over 30 versions of the meme referencing various songs and dialogue lines, many of which went viral.
