Periodt, Periodism, Periodicity, Periodically, Periodic Table refers to an image macro of social media influencer Rickey Thompson, known for saying periodt to emphasize his points, sitting on a bed with bottom-text reading the titular phrase. The image was first posted by Thompson in late 2019, growing in popularity as a reaction image and more emphatic version of periodt over the following years and inspiring a number of other image macros to use the phrase.
Origin
On December 30th, 2019, influencer Rickey Thompson posted a subtitled image macro to his Instagram[1] page consisting of a photo of him shirtless on a bed with his legs crossed and the bottom-text reading, "Periodt, Periodism, Periodicity, Periodically, Periodic Table" (shown below). The image gained over 640,000 likes in a year and a half.
Thompson is known to use variations of the word "periodt" in videos to emphasize his points, mainly the phrase, "and that's on periodt" (example shown below).
Spread
The image of Thompson was reposted a number of times across social media over the course of 2020 and 2021, notably by Instagram[2] page reaccmemes in March 2020, gaining over 27,000 likes in a year. It was posted to Facebook[3] page 90s Babes a year later in March 2021, gaining over 42,000 shares and 14,000 reactions in five months.
Throughout 2020, the image caught on as a reaction to various content on Twitter. People also began attaching the phrase to new images for the same effect. For example, on May 28th, 2020, Facebook[4] page BLACKPINK MEMES posted an image of a BLACKPINK member with the caption, gaining over 1,100 reactions in a year (shown below, left). On August 20th, Instagram[5] user @reaccimages posted a version using his selfie, gaining over 39,000 likes in a comparable span of time (shown below, right).
The phrase has become notably popular with K-pop stans, often used in association with images of members of K-pop groups (example shown below).
