About
Fex is a German post-punk band and the singers of "Subways Of Your Mind," a track that for 17 years was known as The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet. After Fex was identified as the artist, the long-defunct group received significant social media attention, leading to a surge in popularity and a reunion for the group.
History
The search for "The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet" began in 2007, when spiritofradio.ca user bluuue uploaded an excerpt of the song on spiritofradio.ca saying that it was recorded from a German radio station in the '80s. No one knew the song at the time, and 12 years later, the search intensified with the creation of the subreddit /r/TheMysteriousSong.[2]
From 2019-2024, researchers on the subreddit struggled to make significant headway, but on November 4th, 2024, user marijn1412 announced they had tracked down the mysterious song,[1] identifying it as "Subways of your Mind" by the band Fex. marjin1412 found a 1984 German newspaper article describing Fex, contacted one of the members listed in that article, and was able to confirm that Fex had written The Most Mysterious Song.
That day, the track was uploaded to YouTube by Funky Overload, gaining over 377,000 views in eight days.
The band consists of Michael Hädrich, Ture Rückwardt, Hans-Reimer Sievers and Norbert Ziermann.
Online Presence
The demo tape containing "Subways Of Your Mind" also contained two other Fex songs, "Heart in Danger" and "Talking Hands." A fourth Fex song titled "Jenny" was included on a 1985 compilation record called Top Hits.
Fex re-united to interview and play an acoustic version of "Subways Of Your Mind" for NDR on November 7th, 2024. Drummer Hans-Reimer Sievers was put in touch with the rest of the band following the performance.
On November 11th, YouTuber Justin Whang, whose 2019 video on the search was a significant factor in it becoming a widespread internet phenomenon, posted a video about Fex, gaining over 182,000 views in one day.
