About

Igon is an NPC in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring, which was released in June 2024. He is a Drake Warrior characterized by his intense hatred of the dragon Bayle, an optional boss in the DLC. Online, he has become a fan favorite and inspired memes around his hatred for Bayle, particularly because of the dialogue he shouts when summoned for the Bayle boss fight, inspiring the Curse You Bayle copypasta.

Origin

Igon was introduced in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring, released June 21st, 2024.[1] Players may first encounter him in the overworld, near death and cursing a character called Bayle. Later, while exploring the Jagged Peak, players find Igon again and discover he was a Drake Warrior who curses Bayle for wounding Placidusax, a dragon boss from the base game. As he dies, he gifts the player a finger to summon his spirit when they eventually fight Bayle. When Igon is summoned, he delivers an angry monologue cursing and threatening Bayle as the fight is taking place.

Curse you Bayle! I hereby vow! You will rue this day! Behold, a true drake warrior! And I, Igon! Your fear made flesh! Solid of scale you might be, foul dragon … But I will riddle with holes your rotten hide! With a hail of harpoons! With every last drop of my being!

The monologue and Bayle fight are shown below (spoiler warning).

Spread

Igon quickly became a fan favorite among players due to his passionate hatred for Bayle. One of the earliest jokes to mention Igon was posted by PatStaresAt on June 23rd, 2024,[2] who joked that he and Igon were both shouting "Curse you Bayle!" in a tweet that gained over 1,300 retweets and 18,000 likes in four days (shown below).
