About
Holding Space and Feeling Power With the Lyrics of "Defying Gravity" refers to words uttered by Out Magazine (Out.com) reporter Tracy E. Gilchrist in her interview with Wicked movie stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, during the duo's emotional press tour before the film's 2024 release. The direct quote was, "I've seen this week people are taking the lyrics of 'Defying Gravity' and really holding space with that and feeling power in that." Grande and Erivo were awestruck by the question and felt emotional from the idea. Gilchrist reiterated that she was in "queer media." The interview clip went viral on TikTok, Instagram and Twitter / X in November 2024. Viewers made fun of the interviewer's statement for being vague and seemingly nonsensical. Viewers also joked about Grande holding only the finger of Erivo when comforting her. Meme creators used the terms "hold space" and "feel power" in meme captions going forward.
