Hello Everynyan, also known as "OH MY GAH," refers to a humorous scene and viral video in which Chiyo-chichi from Azumanga Daioh meets Ayumu Kasuga (also known as Osaka) and attempts to greet her in broken English. The scene became popular years after the episode aired, as many social media users have shared, parodied and re-enacted it.

Origin

On September 23rd, 2002, episode 25 of Azumanga Daioh titled "Course Discussion / Pray for Success / Fight! / Study Session / Tomo and Osaka's Day of Fate" aired in Japan[1]. In the episode, the cat-like creature named Chiyo-chichi greets Ayumu Kasuga in the class while speaking in Engrish. On May 19th, 2010, YouTuber Brolita uploaded the scene with the title "OH MY GAH," gaining over 9.2 million views over thirteen years. (shown below).

On October 27th, 2017, YouTube[2] user Yami Ch. Amatsuno Yami uploaded a Shingeki no Kyojin / Attack on Titan parody adding Chiyo-chichi instead of the Titan. The video received more than 1.5 million views in five years (shown below, left). On February 13th, 2021, YouTube[3] user AzumangaLupinIIIFan06 uploaded a manga version of the scene based on chapter 37. The video received more than 233,000 views in two years (shown below, right).

The scene grew popular in 2023 on TikTok, where users parodied the scene using drawings of cats. For example, on June 1st, 2023, TikTok[4] user @imsoyfine uploaded a video of cat drawings reenacting the scene. The video received more than 5.4 million views (shown below, left). On June 5th, 2023, TikTok[5] user @wweva_75 uploaded similar drawings and received more than 5.3 million views in one month (shown below, right).
