On January 27th, 2021, following the initial events of the GameStop stock surge, Redditor vavilover made a post in cryptocurrency-themed /r/SatoshiStreetBets subreddit suggesting that users should "pump" Dogecoin next, with the post gaining over 200 upvotes in one week. Later on the same day, Redditor lomac2w0 made a post in which they suggested starting a Dogecoin rally, with the post gaining over 9,600 upvotes in one week. Within one hour, Redditor DODGECOINPSU made a detail posted in which they hyped up the cryptocurrency, with the post gaining over 41,400 upvotes in /r/dogecoin subreddit prior to being removed by the moderators
Between January 27th and 28th, following multiple posts and memes on Reddit and Twitter, the price of the currency rapidly rose by over 900% from $0.0076 to $0.0082. On January 28th, Elon Musk tweeted a mockup cover of a made-up magazine titled DOGUE, likely referencing Dogecoin and further assisting the growth.
In the early hours of February 4th, 2021, Elon Musk tweeted a photograph of a space rocket taking off, then writing "Doge" in the same thread (shown below, left). Following Musk's tweet, the price of Dogecoin rapidly rose from $0.0397 to $0.0505, with Musk proceeding to make several more tweets about Dogecoin.

Dogeday
Dogeday is an unofficial holiday celebrating Dogecoin cryptocurrency that is scheduled to happen on April 20th, 2021, which is also the 420 Day celebrated by cannabis enthusiasts. Proposed by a Redditor in /r/dogecoin subreddit and picked up by the Dogecoin community, the holiday has become a subject of hype-up memes, with users discussing possible moves in the price of Dogecoin.
On January 30th, 2021, during the Dogecoin surge prompted by posts in the /r/SatoshiStreetBets and /r/dogecoin subreddits, Redditor unknwnrand posted an image that urged /r/dogecoin subscribers to buy Dogecoin on February 4th between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. EST. The post received over 230 upvotes prior to being removed by the moderators.
On March 29th, 2021, Twitter user @BadonkaDoge replied to Twitter user @ChurchOfPumps that they were making April 1st, April Fools' Day, into Dogeday). Within 10 minutes, @ChurchOfPumps tweeted, "#April1st shall be known as #DogeDay," with the tweet gaining over 50 retweets and 170 likes in three weeks.
Separately from attempts to establish Dogeday on February 4th and April 1st, between February 22nd and April 10th, Redditor] doge2dmoon posted multiple comments in which they communicated an intention to hold their Dogecoins until April 20th, 2021 (2021 'Weed' Day). On April 10th, doge2dmoon, using their alternative Reddit account DoGeToDaMoOnWoW, posted a Dust Storm Dog captioned "Dogeday 4/20." The post received nearly 290 upvotes in /r/dogecoin subreddit.
