Elf Senshi

About

Elf Senshi is a femboy and elf version of the Delicious In Dungeon character Senshi. The character first appeared in the manga series in December 2018, being adapted to the anime in June 2024, which sparked fan art, memes and parodies focusing on Elf Senshi's beauty.

Origin

On December 15th, 2018, chapter 50th of the manga^[1] series Delicious In Dungeon was released in Japan. In the chapter, all characters switch races (seen below) after being infected by a poisonous mushroom, which causes Senshi (a dwarf) to be turned into an elf (originally Marcille).

On June 6th, 2024, Elf Senshi appeared in episode 23 of the anime (shown below), which was later posted on YouTube^[2] by user @Kakuchopurei, amassing over 11,000 views and 370 likes in a day.

Spread

Shortly after the character appeared in the manga, memes and jokes referencing Elf Senshi appeared on Reddit. For instance, on July 19th, 2019, Redditor^[3] @ProDragonToucher uploaded a panel showing the character (seen below, left), captioning it, "Mfw people try to tell me elf-Senshi isn't best girl," which received roughly 65 upvotes and three comments in five years.

Memes and fan art about Elf Senshi grew exponentially after their anime appearance in June 2024. For example, on June 7th, 2024, X^[4] user @greseadraws posted fan art inspired by the Birth of Venus painting, replacing the woman with Elf Senshi (seen below, right). The post garnered over 20,000 likes and 2,600 reposts in less than a day after it was posted.
