About
Im Fag? refers to a series of memes based on an image of a blue Pikmin from the video game series with the words, "im fag?" photoshopped next to his face. The meme was originally posted to the /r/pikmin subreddit in December 2019 and became increasingly popularized over the following years as a reaction image and exploitable image macro format, often used in response to images or memes about attractive men to suggest they're turning someone gay. The meme has largely been embraced by the LGBTQ+ community and regularly appears in LGBTQ-positive online spaces.
Origin
On December 11th, 2019, Redditor u/dannygarbage made a post to the subreddit /r/pikmin[1] titled, "When someone who plays COD and Fortnite calls you gay for liking Nintendo and Pikmin," along with a photoshopped screenshot of a blue Pikmin saying, "im fag?" The post garnered around 290 upvotes in six years. This is the earliest known account to post the meme. A Tineye[2] search suggests there was an earlier version posted to X on April 19th, 2019, by user @egirlforhire_, although this is unconfirmed as the meme has not been archived.
Spread
The image became the further subject of memes over the following years. On June 29th, 2020, Tumblr[3] user homiedepot posted the image as a reaction meme under the caption, "Me, age 13, watching the Disney channel" in response to an image of actor David Henrie, garnering over 14,000 notes in five years.
On April 8th, 2021, Tumblr[4] user drinkyourjuiceshelby posted a meme using an edit of the reaction image reading, "im friend?" garnering over 3,900 notes in four years. On August 27th, the same Tumblr[5] user posted another meme using the image, this time editing it to read, "im logistically difficult?" garnering over 79,000 notes in the same span of time.
On July 15th, 2023, Tumblr[6] user seanatar posted a version of the meme that looks like a painting, garnering over 1,600 notes in two years. On November 15th, 2024, Tumblr[7] user autisticlilith posted a different version of the meme that resembles a painting, garnering over 24,000 notes in two months.
On January 13th, 2025, X[8] user @bugmode posted a comic referencing the meme, garnering over 66,000 likes in three days.
