Bibble Singing

About

Bibble Singing is an image macros series in which people express their enthusiasm for songs from their childhood by using an image of the character Bibble from the 2006 animated film Barbie: Mermadia. The meme, which follows the phrasal template of song lyrics by an artist being concluded by the phrase "X year old me," is similar to the Mike Wazowski Singing meme in that it uses an image of a cartoon character singing to stand in for the meme's author.

Origin

On March 14th, 2006, the direct-to-DVD animated film Barbie: Mermadia was released. In the film, the character Barbie meets Bibble who sings in a variety of styles (video below).^[1]

On June 1st, 2018, Twitter ^[5] user @KlarksonCelly posted a screen capture of Bibble with its arms outstretched, singing loudly from the film and the caption, "bitches singing royals by lorde in 7th grade." The post (shown below, left) received more than 2,100 retweets and 10,000 likes in less than three months

On August 7th, 2018, Twitter^[2] user @BhadDhad tweeted and the caption, "lady gaga: jesus is my virtue… and judas is the demon i cling to… 11 year old me: …I CLING TOO." Bibble, in this case, serves as a stand-in for the author. The post (shown below, right) received more than 15,000 retweets and 40,000 likes in nine days.

Over the next week, people online began posting variations of the format. On August 11th, Twitter^[3] user @luciacfreeman tweeted, "Leona Lewis: you cut me open and I.. 10 year old me: I KEEP BLEEDING I KEEP KEEP BLEEDING LOVE." The post (shown below, left) received more than 64,000 retweets and 139,000 likes in five days.

The popularity of the tweet inspired more people to join in, leading to numerous variations, using a variety of artists and characters (examples below).
