Aqua's Purification from the anime series KonoSuba in which the character Aqua repeatedly uses her purification spell on a monster-infested lake. Online, a still image paired with the quote gained popularity as a reaction to unsettling content, with an alternative caption Yurification being used to react to shipping various female characters.

Origin

On February 10th, 2016, episode five "A Price for this Magic Sword!" of season one of KonoSuba premiered in Japan.^[1] In the episode, character Aqua agrees to purify a lake filled with alligator monsters. After the monsters begin attacking the cage Aqua is locked in, she panics and begins rapidly casting purification spells.

On May 23rd, 2017, MemeCenter user alucard2401 made the earliest known meme based on the still image of Aqua paired with the quote (shown below).^[2] The post gained over 400 likes on the platform in two years.

Yurification

Yurification refers to the still image from the episode with the Aqua's quote changed to read "Yurification! Yurification! Yurifica-," a portmanteau of "purification" and "Yuri", an anime/manga genre depicting lesbianism. The subformat is often used as a reaction to shipping various female characters. In some examples, a redrawn GIF of Aqua blushing^[3] or a still image based on it is used.
