About
Aqua Is Useless is a catchphrase that originates from the Japanese light novel and anime series KonoSuba. The story follows a character named Kazuma, who is sent into a fantasy-themed parallel world with the absentminded goddess Aqua. Aqua's general ineptitude inspired KonoSuba fans to adopt the phrases "Aqua Is Useless* or Useless Goddess as a running gag in the fandom.
Origin
KonoSuba was originally serialized between 2012 and 2013, and portrayed the story of Kazuma, a NEET shut-in who dies and meets a goddess named Aqua, who grants him the power to live in a parallel world with fantasy elements. Kazuma chooses to bring Aqua with him but quickly finds her absentmindedness to be less-than-useful in his travels. An anime adaptation of the show began in 2016 with the title, Konosuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!
Aqua became a popular topic of discussion on 4chan's /a/ board in 2016, soon after the anime was released.
A November 12th, 2016 post on /a/[1] shows Aqua reading a series of mean comments about her and tearing up, with the post marking the origin of one of the earliest popular memes about the character.
