3D GIF Dubstep refers to a series of memes in which 3D animations which are paired with EDM music, most often with dubstep, breakcore or similar genres, for comedic effect. The videos are mostly produced by 3D GIF Dubstep, an X / Twitter gimmick account created in 2020.

Origin

On November 20th, 2020, X[1] / Twitter gimmick account 3D gif dubstep (@3Dgifdubstep) was created, posting its first two memes,[2][3] 3D animations paired with dubstep music, on that day (first post shown below).

On November 23rd, 2020, the account posted its first meme to gain 100 likes on X,[4] the Boombox Pirate GIF paired with "Cronenberg" by yheti & toadface. On November 24th. 2020, @3Dgifdubstep posted[5] a 3D GIF of a man in a hazmat suit set to "Requiem" by The McMash Clan which gained over 1,900 reposts and 8,900 likes in three years (shown below).

Spread

The account first achieved virality on X[6] / Twitter in October 2021. On October 8th, 2021, the account posted a meme set to "Test Me (Original Mix)" by Superior Cornrows that gained over 7,200 reposts and 32,000 likes on X in two years (shown below).

Another post,[7] based on an animation of an office worker moving around the building in a spinning chair, garnered over 11,800 reposts and 50,600 likes in two years.

In 2022 and 2023, some users copied the style of videos posted by the account: for example, on April 22nd and July 15th, 2022, X[8][9] / Twitter user @EZGames69 posted two 3D animations of construction workers set to "The Paradox" by Excision which received over 1,700 reposts and 6,000 likes and 930 reposts and 3,700 likes in two years, respectively (second video shown below).

On August 25th, 2022, YouTube[10] user Falex posted a compilation of 3D GIF Dubstep memes that garnered over 400,000 views on the platform in one year.

On September 26th, 2023, TikTok[11] user @Miah_apodaca25 posted a video of @EZGames69 visuals being used by Excision at their set at Lost Lands Festival. The video (shown below) got over 4.8 million views and 791,000 views in one month.
