What's the meaning behind "accepting mediocrity?"

I feel that's one thing that some people throw around every now and then, but I feel it's another one of those "consume product"-style insults that's thrown around to either make people look bad for liking something they don't, or because people just love to look back at something with rose-tinted glasses and feel insulting people for liking something more recent will help make them feel better about wallowing in nostalgia.

So I’ve heard. But this view has problems, given the rabid demagoguery online. The results can be avoided by analyzing how others respond, and responding either in agreement, or with constructive criticism, as one would in a real-life debate.

As for the topic, it sounds like the usual us versus them dichotomies forming over who’s a fan of what media.
