What do you think of: Spoilers?

I'm looking for opinions on spoilers in general, how companies should handle them and people spreading them out of nowhere as a means of trolling, and the concept of an "expiration" date for them.

i believe that spoilers are free to be discussed 1 – 2 weeks after the thing came out when it comes to the ending, though sometimes particularly big ones get an unspoken rule of never being flaunted around so easily, which is fine too

so far it's been holding up as something true for me, minus that one time where a mod on another forum got mad because i said that in Fallout 4s ending you demolish the institute after about 1 year after release

I think it's a weird issue, as some famous spoilers have become ingrained in popular culture due to how shocking they were (Sixth Sense, Empire Strikes Back, Planet of the Apes, etc).
But I stand by that, in general, spoilers should be considered as spoilers no matter how old. Every time I see the excuse "[X thing] has been out for [Y time], why haven't you played/watched it!!!" Sorry I can't watch literally every movie out there or play every game. Not everyone has the time or resources for that.
Though it should still be a person's responsibility to avoid obvious areas that would discuss spoilers like Forums or Youtube or something if they don't want to be spoiled. I've done that for a game until I can properly run it, and it's worked out perfectly for me.
That's my two cents at least \( ._.)/
Also don't be an asshole about spoilers. People who gleefully announce who died or who was really the murderer all along with no warning whatsoever and do so to ruin the thing for other people deserve painful rotting in the farthest reaches of hell.

The 1-2 weeks rule is good to go by (maybe a month for more renowned films).

On the topic of older and more… popular spoilers, I'd say it's at the discretion of the person who got spoiled of the twist. You shouldn't expect everyone to hush about the meaning of Rosebud, who Luke's father is or who the "dead people" that kid from the Sixth Sense was referring to. They're old. The majority know it. Don't get pissed over it.

I don't care myself, honestly I sometimes look up spoilers for some things if I'm unsure about the film, or if I think it was a good concept but the reviews for it ended up being negative.

however there have been exceptions where I didn't look up spoilers[a recent example would be rogue one], and I'd say I enjoyed the film a slight bit more due to being more shocked.

and when I do look up the spoilers for things, I don't tell them to my friends, I'm probably not a very polite person, I think that's obvious, though there are times where I am at least a lot more friendly. I think if you intentionally try to spread spoilers in order to ruin the experience for other people, your really no more than an immature, self righteous and entitled prick.

Basically I don't care too much about spoilers myself, but I think spreading spoilers publicly and shortly or even before the release[Just a heads up, I am of the opinion that people should be allowed to discuss spoilerly content long after the release of something, unless it's say, like blade runner, undertale or the cabin in the woods where the less you know the more you'll love it, you should be able to discuss say, that Michael Corleone became the boss of the Family at the end of The Godfather for example] is absolutely dickish
