Maybe I've just been out of the loop, but I just learned that polio is going the way of smallpox. I.e., it's almost entirely been eradicated or at least, allegedly so. Not sure how important it is, but I figured it was nice to know in between all the recent issues about race, hacking, politics, and so on.
(And yes, I realize that the superbug still looms nigh, but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate the "little" victories now and then, I figure.)
