Obama will be the only person sticking to Iran deal

{ Sometime this week, President Obama is scheduled to sign an executive order to meet the Oct. 15 “adoption day” he has set for the nuclear deal he says he has made with Iran. According to the president’s timetable the next step would be “the start day of implementation,” fixed for Dec. 15.

But as things now stand, Obama may end up being the only person in the world to sign his much-wanted deal, in effect making a treaty with himself.

The Iranians have signed nothing and have no plans for doing so. The so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has not even been discussed at the Islamic Republic’s Council of Ministers. Nor has the Tehran government bothered to even provide an official Persian translation of the 159-page text.

Nor have Britain, China, Germany, France and Russia, who were involved in the so-called P5+1 talks that produced the JCPOA, deemed it necessary to provide the Obama “deal” with any legal basis of their own. Obama’s partners have simply decided that the deal he is promoting is really about lifting sanctions against Iran and nothing else.

So they have started doing just that without bothering about JCPOA’s other provisions. Britain has lifted the ban on 22 Iranian banks and companies blacklisted because of alleged involvement in deals linked to the nuclear issue. German trade with Iran has risen by 33 percent, making it the Islamic Republic’s third-largest partner after China. China has signed preliminary accords to help Iran build five more nuclear reactors. Russia has started delivering S300 anti-aircraft missile systems and is engaged in talks to sell Sukhoi planes to the Islamic Republic.

“The structures of sanctions built over decades is crumbling,” boasts Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

Meanwhile, the nuclear project is and shall remain “fully intact,” says the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency, Ali Akbar Salehi.

“We have started working on a process of nuclear fusion that will be cutting-edge technology for the next 50 years,” he adds.

“Obama won’t do anything that might jeopardize the deal,” says Ziba Kalam, a Rouhani adviser. “This is his biggest, if not the only, foreign policy success.” }

Ya'll might actually want to read this report, a page and a half isn't going to kill you.

Comments, concerns about this utter failure and how it might effect Russia's moves in Syria??

I don't think this is going to alter Russia's plans with Syria at all. But I don't understand how Putin thinks anyway.

Right now this just looks like an excuse for China and Russia to bolster their fragile economies by dumping their outdated equipment off for sale.

See when I first heard about this whole deal I thought "well it might not be that great but it'll improve our relation with Iran maybe and prevent a war?" but now I'm just utterly confused by this whole thing.

What are we getting out of this "deal"? What is ANYONE getting out of this deal aside from Iran? I don't seem to understand who this helps aside from Iran and I am legitimately curious if I'm missing something or I am being too astute here (the former option would not surprise me).

It seems to be helping everyone who wants to trade with Iran, which conisdering the people singing on for more trade, appears to be everyone except the US.

We're getting the ability to verify Iran has no nuclear weapons program. We're going to get more trade. We're avoiding a terrible bloody war that neoconservatives were itching to start.

We're giving up… basically nothing. Iran's assets were frozen, now they are going to be released, but they were always Iran's so that isn't a loss.

bruh you didn't even read the OP did you

The EU countries that have already lifted their sanctions are getting money in return for exports to Iran.

The people it was supposed to help (human rights/nuclear checkpoints that Iran had to meet or else sanctions are reinforced) get nothing because the sanctions have already been lifted before anyone actually agreed to anything formally and before Iran proved it was on board and willing to make said changes.

Iran is getting everything they wanted (weapons, hundreds of billions of dollars, and an unchecked nuclear program) and then some, which is already being used to assist Russia and Iraq in propping up Assad in Syria as well as supporting terrorist groups throughout the region.

& Obama is still waiting to sign a nuclear agreement with himself, which I'm sure the media will laud as a great victory.

The sanctions snap back instantly if Iran violates the agreement.

The P5+1 countries (Britain, France, Germany, Russia, China, U.S.) and Iran signed the deal months ago. I don't know what you mean by suggesting Obama is waiting to sign an agreement with himself.

The entire purpose of the sanctions was to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. We now have strict verification procedures to make sure they don't. Iran continues to have a peaceful nuclear power program, which is their right under international law.

All them signing it means is that they agreed to the final text. Congress and all the other governments of participating members had to have it go through their legislature and be approved, except nobody did that but they already removed their sanctions and started taking Iran's money anyway.

Not to mention a couple days ago our own government officials found that key elements of the deal break federal laws already in place, and Congress would have to change those laws before it could be legally implemented. Neither party wanted this deal to go through by the time the whole terms had been made public, so they're not about to remove Iran from the state-sponsors of terrorism list in order to make a legal loophole work.

Russia and Iran are already using the sanctions relief to their benefit in defending the Assad regime in Syria, which continues to slaughter hundreds of thousands of its own citizens and now our EU/UK-backed moderate rebels as well thanks to BFF Putin stepping in. Their nuclear program is not the only threat they pose to the world. They, Russia, Iraq, and China are now directly aligning against US/UK forces in Syria. This is literally how world wars start, and we've just handed one of the key opposing players a $250,000,000,000 freebie.

oh and if that weren't enough, Iranian state-run media announced this morning that they successfully test-fired a new precision-guided, long-range missile.

{ The Emad (Pillar) surface-to-surface missile, designed and built by Iranian experts, is the country's first long-range missile that can be precision-guided until it reaches its target, said Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehqan, Iran's defense minister.

"To follow our defense programs, we don't ask permission from anyone," he said, according to state-run news agency IRNA.

[Former Pentagon spokesman Adm. John Kirby] noted that U.N. Security Council Resolution 1929 prohibits Iran from undertaking any activity related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using ballistic missile technology. }

Confidence inspiring!
Trustworthy!
Proven themselves worthy of sanctions relief!

that's great news. everyone here was afraid that the sanctions will be removed and iran could spearhead for a nuclear warhead.

thank god it collapsed.

hell, even without nuclear weapons iran still funds terrorist organizations like hamas so either way the facts that the sanctions stay is very good

The parliament is a puppet in Iran, until Khemani and his clerics sign off on it nothing is official .

{ However, parliament insisted that international inspectors would have only limited access to military sites. }

Parliament has merely signed off on their support of a faulty agreement where they've inserted their own conditions.

Iran also convicted WashPo reporter Jason Rezaian yesterday.

{ Reps. Peter Roskam, R-Ill.; Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y.; and Mike Pompeo, R-Kan., also released a statement saying the lives of Rezaian and other American prisoners -- including Amir Hekmati and Saeed Abedini -- should not be a "concession" in the nuclear deal.

"We urge the Obama Administration not to lift any economic sanctions until Iran vacates this absurd judgment and releases all four Americans wrongly imprisoned by Iran. It is disgusting to reward a country that so brazenly violates international law and abuses our fellow citizens," they said. }

We couldn't even get those 4 people back in this amazing deal which is so beneficial for the Iranians obviously desperate for moderate reform and compromise with the first world.

Lets review.
Since Obama has pushed this final deal, Iran has:

  • Convicted an innocent man for serious crimes
  • Used the beginnings of its sanction relief to support Russia and Iraq in defending Assad in Syria
  • Blatantly broken a UN Security Council resolution that says they're not allowed to test launch ballistics missiles

The consequences of the Iran deal unfold

{ The Senate Democrats who premised their support for the deal on the notion that the alternative to the bad deal was something worse should admit grievous error. We have a bad deal, elevated human rights violations, ballistic missile testing, and Iran regional expansion into Iraq and Syria. Critics were precisely right in saying the rotten deal signaled to Iran American weakness and made our other interests (human rights, Iranian aggression) subservient to the objective of maintaining that rotten deal. The notion that the deal would somehow strengthen the hand of moderates in Iran proved to be ridiculous. }
