Stereotyping makes things easy to understand and communicate. A positive stereotype raises expectations; but how good is that?

There are two ways to go about doing this. The only acceptable way is to do it ironically for self-deprecating humor purposes. If you do it unironically you come off as either attention seeking or being desperate to fit in, either of which makes you look pathetic.

This is assuming we're talking about things like cliques. I don't know what else you would be referring to if not.

Speaking as a Canadian, I absolutely love stereotyping myself. Of course, that probably has more to do with the fact that for the most part Canadian stereotypes are pretty positive, especially being polite which is just a generally nice way to go about your life.

Well dadgumit if'n I couldn't stereotype myself by speakin' all Southern like then I don't know what I'd do. My normal speakin' voice ain't very Southern as is, but I can do a dadgum good accent, I tell you what.

Well okay what I did there was more "Texan" than "Southerner" but you get the point. I poke fun at myself sometimes based on stuff about me.

-My Southern US heritage:
"I just loves me sum alone time with mah cousin!"

-My mixed Native American and Scottish/Irish heritage:
"Oh no, I am the pale face! Excuse me while I scalp myself."

-Bisexual:
"I'm only half gay, so half of me doesn't care what I wear, while the other half just wants to be FABULOUS!"

-Transgender:
"All my fellow chicks with dicks, raise your hand! Now my dudes with boobs brothers!"
