Theoretically, if the God Emperor of Mankind was the person whom was the main figurehead of all religions, such as Jesus, Moses, Buddha, or whatever.
Then isn't it possible that we are all worshipping the God Emperor of Mankind, and thus not heretics?
Thus if the God Emperor purged all religions from holy terra, doesn't that also mean he killed his own followers for believing in him because they were heretics? Does this also mean we are all heretics, including the God Emperor himself?
Which means. . . .
You are also a heretic.
I consider myself to be an apatheist. Which makes my posting in this forum topic somewhat ironic.
Me? I'm a proud Christian, specifically Church of Christ. I can't believe I found a place on the internet where I can say that and not get a bunch of backtalk.

In all seriousness, however, I am a Christian (my reasons for my faith are my own). I do not personally identify with any particular denomination, though I do take issue with certain American Evangelical sects (especially Seventh Day Adventists).
I take my faith and scholarship very seriously. So much is lost in translation that careful study is necessary to make sense of scripture, something I've found both religious zealots and atheist critics fail to consider. My own faith aside, I love learning about religious traditions and mythologies in general. Seeing how different cultures saw and made/make sense of the world is fascinating and thoroughly entertaining. And regardless of the objective reality of myths, religions are complex social phenomena and a major part of the human experience, and as such worthy of careful study and respect.

Ohoho, looks like someone hasn't read Vengeful Spirit yet :3
In all seriousness, I would recommend reading it. It gives tantalizing hints about HOW the Emperor became THE Emperor.
And yes, the Emperor tried to suppress any and all religious belief from Terra and later his expanding Imperium. This included people who inevitably started worshipping him (the techpriests of Mars were still allowed to worship him as the Machine God with some caveats), best exemplified by his sanction of the Word Bearers legion for preaching his divinity in the Lectitio Divinitatis. (In a terrible irony, it was this sanction that started Lorgar and his legion on the path to Chaos, and in the wake of the Horus Heresy his Lectitio Divinitatis served as the basis for the religion that would become the grimdark repressive, Emperor-worshipping church that so dominates Imperial culture.) As for why the Emperor the Emperor did this… well, that depends on whether or not you want spoilers.
I myself am a Catholic, but maybe non-denominational, but I stay Catholic because Pope Francis is cool.

I was raised Catholic and to an extent I still identify with Catholicism. On the other hand my general ideology is "something's out there", so I'm basically down with anything.
