/r/loliconsunite was banned on Reddit

The subreddit /r/loliconsunite was banned suddenly today without warning. It was a small subreddit for a long time and other than not allowing straight up R34 the rules were pretty slack. Over time multiple posts started making it to /r/all causing numerous reports, hateful comments, the admins getting involved and the subscriber count to skyrocket. The mods of the subreddit made the rules more strict to prevent the sub from being banned which was apparently inevitable.

All I can say is…good! Lolicons are the bottom of the barrel worthless degenerates that have no place on the internet or anywhere else. This was a win for the justice system.

Illegal?

Artistic depictions of fictional characters (lolicon and shotacon) technically aren't illegal, and this is coming from someone who doesn't even like them.

So it's a direct mirror of KYM.

Censorship for "immoral" things is pretty dangerous because that means someone/a government body ultimately has to be the arbiter for what's immoral.

Even if we went by this, it's hypocritical. Half the stuff you see on TV is immoral anyways. Hell, even before that. Immoral things have been shown in fiction for as long as fiction has existed.

Also, breaking news, this just in.

The alternative subreddit, /r/lolijustice, which as made right after /r/loliconsunite was banned was too just banned. And apparently multiple users who posted there were banned as well.

Third times the charm. Third subreddit is now up and running called /r/loliconhideout …nice

You’re correct, I should’ve phrased that better
Censorship is good when it’s of illegal and immoral things, and encourages them

So…how many real children is this supposed to save from being raped?

If someone is going to rape a child they'll do it, regardless of what reddit thinks. It's basically like the "video games cause real murder" argument.

oh? that sucks. but can i ask why the appeal in lewding lolis.

I guess it's because they are cute. The more cute something is, the more it's gonna be lewded. I think cuteness is one of those really big reasons why things like MLP:FiM and Pokemon have so much porn. There are people who don't really care if they are cartoon characters with four legs or more or some weird looking creatures. They are cute, so of course they are going to be lewded. Same thing here with lolis. And even if they aren't cute, there's still gonna be porn, just not as much as those that are cute.

But maybe i could be totally wrong too. I don't know.

A serious post in Riff-Raff? Aw, hell naw!

tl;dr before I start: There are two discussions happening here and they are actually separate things. "Websites shouldn't ban MY content, even if other users find it distasteful or wrong" and "Is lolicon actually bad?"

"Is lolicon actually bad?"

Now fellas, I am not saying you guys are wrong when raising the point that drawn images of fictitious minors is not a direct act against a real minor. There is even some (limited and controversial) research done in places like Denmark and Japan relating to this. But it is curious to me how often this topic comes up on KYM, and it always seems like the Lolicon Defence Force come out in full, lmao.

@Evil Thing:

So…how many real children is this supposed to save from being raped?

There is a can of worms to get into such as whether or not lolicon enables or normalizes the idea of involving minors in sexual acts or "thinking of children in a sexual way". I think that it's very difficult to judge without a lot more research.

"Websites shouldn't ban my content."

I think there is a conflation in this thread of what individuals want with what websites want. Reddit is not located in the United States of America. Its physical headquarters might be. But not the actual bit of internet it's on. No website is. They are privately-owned corners of cyberspace, and are not honour-bound to protect freedom of expression. If it's their own wish to make a point of doing so, fine (see: 8chan).

Reddit's content policy (here) says: "Content is prohibited if it is sexual or suggestive content involving minors". No distinction on real or fictitious. That means if you upload loli to Reddit, and Reddit bans you, they have not infringed upon you. You have infringed upon them. It is Reddit's right to decide whether loli is allowed on the bit of the internet they own – before we get into the various laws of various countries and how they apply. If you want to post loli art, you must find another website. Even 4chan expressly forbids loli "outside of /b/", although I believe that was not always the case.

On this note, @Some Buddy:

It depends where in the world you live as to whether or not drawn pornography of fictitious minors is legal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_status_of_drawn_pornography_depicting_minors

US law isn't everyone's law, and on the whole, it is still up to individual websites to prohibit technically legal things if they so wish.

Now you might be thinking of the tumblr porn ban thing. I consider that to have been a silly move on their part because they turned around and tried to force a massive change in the culture of their site overnight. Whereas Reddit has never actually expressly allowed loli, so it's not as though this is a sudden change. So I don't see it as quite the same issue.

Just to be clear, I'm not actually against the banning of this subreddit and I do agree that they can just prohibit Loli content if they so chose. (not that I like the decision, but it is their right to ban it)

My comment was mainly towards JC1985's post, considering how he has implied that he's from the US, I thought it was kind of weird how he said it was illegal.

Ehem

Not a fan of this line of thinking considering the whole video games/murder and rape porn(which, from what I've heard, is one of the most popular fetishes out there)/actual rape thing. But I also think part of the debate regarding whether or not it's harmless is how the word is used. I've seen the word loli used to refer to actual, realistic child-looking characters, characters who are basically short adults, and everything in-between. It's the reason why I'm not a fan of the word.

Agreed; at this point, it clearly has different meanings to different people.
