The commonly accepted definition of beer is fermented grain. The commonly accepted definition of wine is fermented fruit, but fermented flowers and fermented honey are also wine. If the fermented grain is rice it isn't beer but wine. Barley wine is a beer. Cider and mead are both marketed and consumed like beers but are technically considered to be subcategories of wine.
