Why KnowYourMeme sucks.

It has been 3 years since I have been using this site properly. What happened? Did I grow out of silly things? Did I become a MATURE ADULT? Was I paid by Them?

No, no, and NO.

There is a reason I stopped using the site, and it is the same reason this post will be my last.

When I joined the site, I was under the false impression that this place is an archive of Internet culture. I thought you create entries for old memes, so that #KidsTheseDays could come here in 10 years or so, and see what the Internet used to be #BackInTheGoodOldDays. I thought this place was a library. I thought this place was a treasure trove. I thought you wanted to preserve the good stuff for future generations.

But the more I used KYM, the more I saw that I was wrong. People here do not care about preserving the good stuff. Instead, users use memes as a means of achieving Internet popularity and a sense of self-accomplishment. It's all about knowing the hottest memes, and posting them before someone else. It's about knowing something popular, and becoming popular through it. It's all about them retweers, them reblogs, and them KRAMA points. It's pretty much this:

Step 1: go to Reddit, tumblr, or 4chan.
Step 2: steal something that people like to repost at the moment.
Step 3: post it here, and claim you found a new meme.
Step 4: get tons of +1s from people who are delighted to see that you like what they like.
Step 5: feel good about yourself because you accomplished something truly great, your +9,000 karma being a solid proof of that.
Step 6: return to Reddit, tumblr, or 4chan to steal more stuff that someone else made.

You* are not preserving Internet culture. You are engaged in a nonstop race for Internet popularity, aggressively liking what everyone else likes for +1s.

You* are not preserving history.

You* just want other people to like you for liking what they like.

You* are the popular girls in high school.

Now, you* surely must be thinking: "What an asshole, what a jerk! Just look at all that h8! He hurt my feeeeelings, ban him immediately!"

Well, by the time the Great Heroes (mods) come to the rescue, and ban me, I would already deactivate my account. Get Shrecked!

P.S. Look in the mirror: https://encyclopediadramatica.se/Knowyourmeme

*Not all of you, just most of you.

I'm pretty sure the mods wouldn't ban you just for saying the site sucks, but you deactivated anyways, so it doesn't matter anymore.

If moderators could ban you for having a negative opinion, then the internet would be a far less pleasant place to be in.

As long as you source or have permission of the author, everything will be ok.

And of all problems we have on KYM, this is the problem you find the most problematic?

KYM has changed a lot in this period of time. It's no longer strictly about some jokes that spawn on the internet or image macros, it's about anything what happens on internet nowadays.

P.S Using hashtags and "GET SHRECKED" in a serious post will only bring mockery.

EDIT: It's now Riff Raff. Gr8.

Intention of the site =/= Intention of the site's users

Nice attempt, I will grand you 4 out of 10 meme digits for an attempted tl;dr.

Lol what?!?! Ofcourse you hate this site I mean three years away is enough to de circlejerk you. Your probably a responsible adult who knows better and totally isn't a basement freak whose got nothing better to do than complain on the internet. Lol :3
