I see that absolutely none of the criticisms about the layout have been accounted for by the higher-ups

They will get on it after they give us the ability to fully delete emails and reopen the Cringeworthy Gallery. Any day now…

Still didn't get it either.

Absolutely no one likes the new layout and yet we're going to get it anyway, even with the constructive criticism it was futile.

Then again we begged for editable comments for years and still nothing.

Yeah that's how it is usually. No matter how much feedback you give or say that you don't like it and it looks like shit, they're still going to keep it. I remember when DeviantArt changed their layout and got tons of shit for doing it and they still kept it. I fucking hate that they changed it because now when you wan't to add some image to one of your folders, you have to click favorite and then change location and choose the folder where you wan't to add it. Before you could just drag the image right to your folder. Then there's also those ugly mobile versions of almost every single site there is. I'm still wondering why this keeps on happening all the time when it's clear that no one is asking for any new site layouts.

I'm still angry for how they've changed DA layout.
Yes,the website is infamous for the usual stuff it gets mocked for but at least it was functional and intuitive, that's why people kept using it. The only times you can go back to the original is only through groups. So yeah, they even did an incomplete job with it.

The mobile/app versions are the worst,Twitter also pulled the same thing, making it just like Tumblr, which also nobody liked.

KYM on the other hand has the "benefit" for being a smaller community and yet it didn't work.

Mods reply/explanation when?

Pretty sure the mods are just as in the dark as we are considering several of them have already complained about the new layout and not receiving enough information about it

Seeing that both I and Soup King are not seeing any change to the website, what browser is everyone using?

As stated before, the website still looks the same to me and I'm on Mozilla Firefox.

I'm wondering if it only works on certain browsers.

I'm using Chrome as well.

I don't know if this is important or not, but I see the new layout only when I'm on the main entry page for one of the larger, more popular memes.

Otherwise it's just business as normal.

Same now

I've noticed that when I click on an entry right from the memes subsection, I get the new layout, but if I go to the image gallery, click the image, then click the image's entry, I get the old layout. Is it playing out like this for anyone else?

What gets me is how KYM is a relatively smaller site compared to say, YouTube or Twitter. With that said, you'd think they'd be more inclined to listen to user feedback or something.

What I like about KYM is the simplistic design.
This layout is pretty much created to promote Ads presence in news sites, which I never liked.
This is a meme site for christ sake not WSJ/huffinton post.
Your just killing this site with this layout.

The site is owned by a bigger media conglomerate, so while kym may not be attracting huge waves of traffic on its own, it's part of a larger web of media sites that collectively does. With a media franchise of that size, shareholders are the ones who call the shots for everyone. In this particular case, it's most certainly a push to make the site look more "modern" than the old layout, which despite being far more intuitive and easy to read and follow, doesn't "fill the margins." Notice that the overlay of the (old) site leaves room for margins – something you don't see anymore today which hearkens back to the transitioning days between web 1.0 and web 2.0. To shareholders, it's better to look hip and up-to-date than it is to be functional. It's not about us users. It's about attracting more new traffic and therefore profit, which, in their eyes is tied to how "fresh" the layout is, utility be damned.

based and redpilled

30mins. after my reply to this thread, they brought back the old layout.
And trust me that is for the better.

That new layout is better for the news section and not the documentation entries.
By using the new layout you'll just turn this site into a generic newssite.

I think I have a clue on who is responsible for these changes:

Whenever I notice a page with the new ui, I see this guy being the latest one to update it

Yeah, I think the new layout is breaking the old one. Just look at what it did to the gallery section of this article.

I've also noticed that the Front Page is also partially broken with images not loading past where the first few.

I hate how there's so many ad breaks on pages now.
I hate how the new UI just reads like reader view.
I hate how I try to move my mouse from hovering over "Community" directly to the forums but the dropdown beneath it has such a short delay that you have to un-intuitively mouse downwards THEN to the left rather than directly to the forums.
I hate how all the elements are just stacked vertically now rather than being tucked to the sides so you just have to scroll through so much bullshit to get to the content on entries.
I hate how the entries all inconsistently swap between the new and old UI depending on what PC I'm on or if I'm logged in or not.

I can forgive the last one but the other issues are draining what little I like about this site.

The new layout looks ugly and empty with my adblocker on. I can't imagine how much of an atrocity it must be for those who browse with it on.

It's awful. Absolutely hideous.

I'm considering leaving too if this UI is here to stay. A site that still doesn't have editable comments, tag filtering and is flooded every so often with garbage memes that are forgotten within the day is one thing. But this new UI is something I will not stomach.

The admins are really playing lightswitch rave with the new layout. On, off, on, off. I wonder what's going on behind the scenes.

Well, I tried to create a new entry earlier today under the new layout, but I had to stop because none of the menus worked and the trending topic bar was completely broken to.

So maybe they're just trying to get the whole thing to work properly.

I took a look at one of the other entries I made to make sure I was going to use the right HTML codes for the titles and it looks like they've changed to a version that uses "*" instead of "" to made text bold, although H's are still used for titles.

I don't know if that's always been the case, but if it's not, it seems that they're playing around with the coding too. Either moving to the next version of HTML or a different system entirely.

Since this is the third or forth thread we've made about this so far, maybe it'll prove to them that are concerns about the new layout are genuine and they'll leave things be; or at the very least one of the admin staff will discuss it with us.

If things do go South, where are we going to jump ship to?

I quite like it here because everyone's quite friendly and encouraging here.

It'd be a real shame if everything just went up in smoke because of this.

Excuse my French, but then why the fuck are you retards still here? Organise a mass deactivation and go to Gelbooru or make your own discord server or whatever. Hell, make a new community-run KYM with your own articles (no plagiarism) if you can.

You've been complaining for months, it seems, with exactly zero effect. Complaining more without taking any action will be equally pointless.

The same goes for mods. If you don't like the direction KYM has been going for a while, quit being a mod and/or deactivate. Lack of mods and lack of userbase to pick mods from could actually change something – but ultimately the point is going to a site where you're happier no matter what happens to KYM.

Honestly if things get too fucked here I'm just gonna bite the dick and make a Reddit account, I already look like Huey Emmerich cross-bred with a Redditor irl

The worst part about the new layout is that I can't see the damn top comments, page numbers are gone (saves a lot of trouble scrolling through a long wall), and advertisements are in bars instead of squares. Bars that are better off placed at the end of the page instead of in-between of each topic heading.

The layout would make sense if it's on mobile, but holy crap.

ITS A FUCKING WEDNESDAY MIRACLE!

Let's hope that it's the Staff actually listening to the Userbase and not just them holding back for a week because they found a bug they didn't like.
