so how are we as a community compare to others?

The community is non-existent, we're a loose collection of image posters hanging out in the shadow of the staff who go through their daily routines of reporting on the smallest signs of memes, and also as a pseudo-news site
That said I can liken this place to reddit, where there are regulars who have enough of a following to shift discussion in their direction just from popularity/notoriety alone

The forum community isn't what it used to be and I don't think the comment sections don't look organized enough to be a community at all, but there are some recognizable voices hanging around.

I'm curious about something: Back around Volume 3 (circa 2016), the RWBY main page comment section was very active, but it slowed to a halt with Volume 4. Is this because people lost interest in the show or was it a site-wide drop in activity?

I've only been around a couple of years but I can tell the activity is down from what it once was, and there's an increase in politics and hostility; but I've never seen anything to make me not want to be here. I miss general-purpose internet forums, but something of that lives on in here.

You know how Imgur is a site that is known to exist mostly to host image uploads and nothing else..? Like, it does and has other stuff to it, but to the eyes of the grand majority, it is just an image hosting site..? Well, they actually also have a trending images section with comments, and everything you would commonly associate with it. Their own inside jokes, meta posts and meme preferences, and probably some frequent users too. But no one really talks about it. They are as underground as it gets regarding online communities. As such, it does not have much in the way of an identity beyond the "meme preferences" part. They sure are fond of cute animal pictures and the Socially Awkward Penguin meme, so you can more or less grasp the niche community's nature with that. Despite all of this, they actually get a decent amount of views per trending post, averaging about 50K views each, sometimes more, and the trending comments get around 1K upvotes, so it could be compared to a popular subreddit's userbase regarding activity.

OK, now take all of that, divide all numbers by 10 except the main site's average visits, which you divide by 100, move the Webm format support to a Videos section that nobody uses instead of the actual posts people care about, replace the animal pictures with NSFW posts and that is KYM's community and notoriety compared to others.

KYM when ponies (early 2010) were at its peak was something of a community. Now, it's hard to define since a lot of old people are inactive, new people are fractured into images/comments/forums/offsite-social-media and discussion anywhere is the speed of glaciers.

KYM's community is meager, which isn't bad, but it's meager.

From an outsiders perspective, the community is kinda mundane. From an insiders perspective, the community is ok for the most part. Everyone here either posts pictures, posts to the forums or comments, makes entries (mostly just the mods and admins making some of the entries nowadays) or just lurk and browse here.

Still it’s an ok site but not a site with a vast history like 4chan or vast catalogue of famous/infamous users like Reddit.

We truly are a meager community, especially in light of sites like Reddit which pretty much make this site smaller in comparison. If one were to do a drinking game, it would involve having a shot every time you see a name in the comments that is from a new face.
