For me it's a special case, I find the general lore of "Suda 51/Grasshopper Manufacturer" games to be super interesting. From the hints at connected universes from cameos and nods, to meta references to the history of the company and its games, etc. It's one of the big reasons why I probably enjoyed a game like Travis Strikes Again way more than most average players, because if I may get pretentious as fuck for a moment I feel like this is a game where you have to be someone whose been a fan of Suda/Grasshopper's works for years to understand what makes the game so interesting, as to the average player a lot of the game isn't going to make any sense. From Mondo Zappa and characters from The Silver Case making cameos, to the villainous CEO in the game being a jab towards the CEO of EA Games back when Suda was making a game for them called Shadows of the Damned and the meta commentary of said CEO trying to rush a game being made by someone else, to the game even having a SotD level and characters commenting on how it's a shame that game never really took off, and finally the whole meta commentary about independent game developers and Suda showing a fuck ton of love towards Hotline Miami in the final level because it inspired him to get back into the No More Heroes universe again, Travis Strikes Again was like one big culmination of all my years following Suda and his company and seeing the sort of struggles the dude's been dealing with, and you bet your ass I'm hyped as fuck for NMH3 when it launches.

What's a piece of fictional media with in-depth lore you care a lot about but barely anyone else does?

I've been working on and off on a Pokemon timeline. I'm certain there are others already done, but I thought I'd give it a try. It's weird because for the most part there is no connection between versions, but apparently there is overall timeline according to now deleted tweet by one of the writers. And following XY there are now multiverse hijinks involved, so as you can imagine it gets pretty damn confusing.
Basically RBY and GSC happen at the same time as RSE and DPP and after both BW and B2W2 happen, but at the same time there is a Mega Evolutions universe which likely have similar events as depicted in ORAS and has events of X and Y along with SM/USUM. You can also draw parallels between spinoffs since you can connect first Mystery Dungeons to a certain event and Ranger to more obvious Manaphy egg. Giovanni might or might not have become an multiverse tyrant trying to conquer all realities along the way. And don't get me started on what is Looker doing.
Also I've been trying to track down various Legendaries throughout the events so good luck to me on that.
Cyber Troopers: Virtual-On
There's a lot of lore and story stuff besides the corporation vs. corporation and alien invasion plots from the games but it's all japanese exclusive and mostly untranslated. Besides I can hardly find any of it online, not to mention the fact that Cyber Troopers: Virtual-On: Force's only console port was also Japan exclusive on the Xbox 360, making me think Sega must not like their other franchises that much.
