How did you discover Know Your Meme?

Tell us the first time you've ever heard of this site.

Initially, I only found out about it because of a certain IHE video where he mentioned how Durr Plant got an entry here, that was my first ever contact with the site.

I never really started browsing here until like, late 2016, around the time Sun and Moon came out, it wasn't until half a year later when I created my account in July of 2017, though, I didn't really become active until this year, and so we're here now.

Oh man that was so long ago. My memory is hazy, but here's what I remember.

It was the beginning of summer 2012, right as 7th grade was ending. At the end of the year, I was exposed to these things called "memes" by the internet and my friends. I'm pretty sure that this was the video that exposed me to rage comics, which I thought were the memes back then.

(RIP Dick Figures)

I wanted to know more, so I looked up memes. One thing led to another and I found KnowYourMeme, a treasure trove of stuff that had to do with internet culture. Rage Comics, Gangnam Style, Slender man, My Little Pony, and a lot more content I wanted to swallow up. It wasn't until December of that year that I decided to make an account, and I've been here ever since.

Somewhat similar to what MrLake said, I was looking at Weegee videos as they were popular back then. I stumble upon a KnowYourMeme video of Weegee and watched it. I was interested and checked out rest of the channel. They had their website mention somewhere and I checked it out.

I liked the website and browse from there. After a few months, I decided to register there as a user and became a regular now.

My mother had taken interest in watching the "How is Babby Formed" video, and I went on Google to look it up. One of the links was for this site, and I went here and stayed to look at the other confirmed entires; I was surprised at some regular things that I didn't know at the time were actually memes such as "You Are a Pirate". I registered because I wanted to make an entry for something that I thought deserved an entry (before I was even aware of the submission and deadpool pages), which was Chicken Tetrazzini; I wanted to make that page because I was surprised that it didn't have a page when other memes that became famous thanks to The Soup like Spaghetti Cat were on here already.

Somehow, somewhere, I stumbled upon a lot of information regarding the many variations of the Rage Faces that were everywhere on the internet. One link led me to another and so on. It was around the time when these videos were the hot stuff:

It took a while for me to join the site (I was a mere lurker after all) but around… what it was? 2011 I believe, a site I used to frequent, Gametrailers, suffered a major hoverhaul for the worst and, sometime later, I gave myself the excuse to formally join KYM.

Failblog on youtube (remember that?.. anyone?…..), then I started going to their website which was part of icanhascheezburger, then they created memebase so I started following that, but then the site stopped updated much and just posted reposts all the time and the website got re-designed badly. Around that time they added a link to KYM so I started visiting this place instead.
So yea, I've been here since at least 2013.

I used to use google images for memes and thought Kek was pretty funny. I found its article on KYM, and it took me nearly a year to have the confidence to make an account on a meme website.

ironically, KYM is how I found out about IHE. One of his videos was featured here and I liked it and ended up watching all his videos.

YTP in general and its related articles back in the late 2000s. I remember that the website is underdeveloped while getting a lot of accolades for their documentation.

I'm just leftover dregs from when bronydom was at its zenith. I think I may have been linked to here from EQD? I can't quite recall. Regardless, I spent some fair time lurking the Pony gallery before creating an account specifically to discuss ponies.

As I said in another comment, i've always knewed the existence of this page long time, but never being interested.
The very moment i get in, was 2 years ago when I wanted to search information about 'Meme Man'.
Typed his name on Google Search, pressed the first link I saw and… well, end up here.

Just two years later i created my account.

I used this website back around 2012-ish to look at ancient memes from the 2000s-era (a personal favorite from me was the "This is Sparta" meme).
It took me 3 fucking years for me to notice the comment sections on this website, aaaaannnnd I started to lurk around until I fought against my anti-social tendencies and started commenting around this year.

First, it started with this meme generator site, Imgflip, I used it a lot when I made my account on September 12th, 2015 and then around late 2015 to early 2016 I came across Know Your Meme. I started saving lot of image from the site and was a lurker until I made my account for KYM on March 5th, 2017. Yeah, no real exciting story.

I wound up on the site by clicking on the wrong thing.
For a bit of an explanation, about five years ago I was a regular of the Cheezburget Network websites, mainly Faliblog and My Little Brony. Back in those days, KnowYourMeme used to have a link to their website on the top bar of all the CN websites, and one day, I move my mouse a little bit too far to the right and I accidentally clicked on the KYM link. I lurked for a few years until finally getting an account.
