What do you think about Social Media?

I don't really use any social media in which the sole purpose is just to be social. I think it's caused many people to be disconnected with others, particularly family members, by making it so they don't need to meet face to face anymore. I'm also really critical of Twitter, because in the age of zero tolerance, it has caused so many lives to be ruined.

I use it almost purely for my etsy business. 95% of my posts are about my business and 95% of the people I follow are fellow etsy/artist alley creators. The 5% is mostly j-fashion and bunnies.

i don’t trust it. having to put out all that information for all to see sounds like the opposite thing I’d want to do. not to mention how pointless it is to tweet and blog about your daily routines to an audience of approximately 0 people who care at any point in time. maybe I’ll use stuff like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. once in a blue moon if there’s something worth seeing, but from what I’ve seen it’s all pretty dull and usually unfunny

Yeah, I can see why you wouldn't be social. Social media isn't a place you can actually be social in anymore, because most sites are infested with a bunch of people who think one way, and would try and kill you if you disagree with them.

I remember when I first signed up for facebook, I was harshly whipped because I didn't agree with some random group of people, they completely drove me out of the site and made me say "fuck it."
I just wish people could loosen up a bit, become more reasonable and engage in civil, respectable conversations instead of just screeching their opinion and rejecting yours. I think people would learn more from that! But, until the day comes to where we can truly be different on social media, I'm staying away from the pile.

Yeah, it's really dangerous! You're surrounded by complete strangers and they just have access to all of your personal information, it's just weird on how some sites require you to do that! But, other than that, posting about your daily routine and stuff isn't really what Social Media is for, in my opinion. It's for being social, to make new friends, to have meaningful conversations, to have a good time in general. It's just that people have twisted Social Media into this, and I don't really enjoy it, which is why I come to sites like KYM here, because it honestly feels like people have different opinions and they respect each other due to this. It feels like a real community here, and for some reason, it's better than any "social media" site that I've seen in my life.

I don't use social media that much either, the KYM fora are really the extent of my communication with other people over the internet. I have a LinkedIn but I only use it to seek out employers.

I had setup a MySpace when I was in middle school but I never ended up using it. If Youtube counts then I had one of those, but I never created any comments I only used it to create playlists for AMVs and Halo Fail videos. I lost that account though when Youtube merged with Google.

Generally I am just a private individual who doesn't really have a need for social media.

Facebook is really useful since you can use your account for many websites and services (myanimelist, netflix, playfulbet…) so you save a lot of time you'd usually spend registering on websites, and you have to remember less usernames and passwords.

Outside of KYM, I have a facebook account primarily to interact with a niche fan group for discussions and what not. That's about it. I think social media is great for searching like minded people and sub groups that share a similar interest. I suppose my only issues behind social media is it can feed into certain people's egos and/or begin to spread far too much personal information.

Facebook has some nice shitposting groups that produce good memes, but I mostly use it to interact with IRL friends. Based on what I've seen on Twitter, I don't really see myself using it anytime soon. And I feel that Instagram is too, for lack of a better word, "normie" for my taste. Sometimes I use Snapchat just to see what my friends are up to, but I never actually post on it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, KYM (and other similar websites like 4chan and Reddit) are by definition, a social media.

Aside from that, I created a Facebook account purely for school-related reasons, don't use it that much, aside from occasionally messaging IRL friends just for convenience. There's also that one messaging app called "Whatsapp" which I don't like, but I have to use it since most of my IRL friends and relatives use it. (though that one is more like a messaging app than a social media)

I use Twitter to follow youtubers, game developers, and celebrities I like, looking at memes, watching videos, occasionally leaving a comment or two, but that's about it.

I also use Discord very frequently, so there's that, but that's more of a voice and messaging chat.

My first "real" social media was Miiverse, but that was shut down. Now, I use:
+ KYM for news, memes, and the community. I lurked on this website for an entire year before I made an account, and I really wish I made one sooner. I love this place and all of you. Rex intensifies
+ Reddit for memes and specific communities. Subreddits are a great place to find people who share you interests without having to go to a dedicated website/forum, and I like getting karma
+ 4chan for arguments and video games. I mostly go on /v/, and it's honestly not that great, but it's a good place for a variety of gaming topics (I don't like r/gaming). Most of the anons there are irritating, from complaining how gaming/4chan is ruined to how [insert recent AAA game] has five threads up, but I like it well enough.
+ Snapchat for real-life friends and my story. Snapchat is a nice and easy way to stay in contact, and I have this thing where I review food and stuff on my story.
+ Twitter for following big names and watching political discourse. There are a lot of cool accounts, but they often get drowned in a swamp of people arguing over Mr. Drumpf or something petty.

I used to use Facebook and Twitter, but only family members bug me (not that I hate them or anything, it's just only them I know) and they both became political cesspools later on.

I sometimes lurk around Reddit, Tumblr, and I go on 4Chan on rare occasions.

But my main SM website is here at KYM; where the community is small and friendly enough that I actually get to know people, where I get to look at documented pages about memes and softcore, and where my family don't know who I am (cuz of muh alias n shit).

And I love it here!

Oh, and I'm also a Trouper, and I go to TV Troupes CONSTANTLY, but I'm pretty sure everyone figured that one out due to my occasional "Trope-speak" shit that I sometimes do.

Also, is it just me that likes to pronounce the anagram "KYM" as "Kim"?
