MLB 2018 General - Shohei The Way!

Well, sorry for the late MLB General Thread, but here we are. The main attraction this year is the Los Angeles Angels signing pitcher/designated hitter, Shohei Ohtani from Japan and man he's off to a good start. Also, last night, Oakland Athletics pitcher, Sean Manaea threw a no hitter against the Boston Red Sox who are currently the best team in baseball. What will happen this year? Will the Houston Astros repeat? Will the Miami Marlins firesale continue? Will the New York Yankees get it together despite acquiring Giancarlo Stanton? Will you take me out to the ballgame and buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks?

Note: One game between the Miami Marlins and the Pittsburgh Pirates was cancelled due to rain and will not be made up since both teams are eliminated. Both Miami and Pittsburgh will finish the season playing 161 games.

Tomorrow, there will be two tiebreakers. The Milwaukee Brewers will play the Chicago Cubs for the NL Central Division Title, which will then be followed by the Colorado Rockies playing the Los Angeles Dodgers for the NL West Division Title. The winner of these games will advance to the NLDS while the losers will have to play each other in the NL Wild Card Game on Tuesday night.

Los Angeles Dodgers – 2018 NL West Division Champions

NL Wild Card Game – Colorado Rockies vs. Chicago Cubs

AL Wild Card Game – Oakland Athletics vs. New York Yankees

NLDS – Wild Card Winner vs. Milwaukee Brewers Atlanta Braves vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

ALDS – Wild Card Winner vs. Boston Red Sox Cleveland Indians vs. Houston Astros

Upcoming schedule by round (all times EST)

NL Wild Card Game:
Colorado Rockies vs. Chicago Cubs 10/2/2018 8PM ESPN

AL Wild Card Game:
Oakland Athletics vs. New York Yankees 10/3/2018 8PM TBS

Taking a quick glance at the stats, the difference in Earned Run Average (ERA) could give the Cubs a slight edge heading into the game. Despite this, the regular seasons games between these two were split 3-3 with Colorado winning the two most recent contests.

As for the AL wild card game, I think it is going to come to whether the Athletics can limit the home run production from the Yankees. Like in the NL, the regular season contests were also split between these two teams 3-3.

Though one thing is for sure, the post-season always brings out the best of every player, who knows if we'll be hailing a new hero in each of these games.

I'm kind of hoping to see the Braves force a Game 5, but it's not looking likely at this point. Still, pretty impressive season for the Brewers so far. Hopefully, they can keep the momentum up in the NCLS.

As far as AL, Yankees/Sox game tonight is going to be pivotal in terms of momentum. So far, they been trading hot bats across the two games. I think this one is going to be a low scoring game tonight.

Houston just looks too strong to be beaten right now, so unless there's some post-season magic still in the tank. I think the Indians are going to be knocked out.
