Disclaimer: this is unrelated to the other thread i made about NSFW images getting so much attention over other memes.

As i've already stated in the other thread, i don't really like anime, but that has always been a thing for me since forever, i tried gettinf into them but they are just not for me for many reasons i won't say here to don't start an offtopic argument.

BUT, there is something that i've noticed in the last couple of years that got my attention as an internet trend, so i wanted to ask people here who are surely experts about such matters.

The fact is that i believe the anime subculture has always been present on the internet since a long time, so what happened in the last couple of years that started so many people to actively hate it on such a large global scale?

Because, as for me, i remember that people like me where the minority on the interwebs in the last decade on imageboards and forums.

So, what i wanted to ask is: do you think we live in a period where there's an active culture about fighting the anime subculture?

I dunno. I think if anything it's the opposite is happening. Anime is growing in popularity rapidly and more people are liking it. I'm seeing anime fans in the UK (Such as in College which isn't like College in the USA) and there's a decent growing from them.
This video tells you why the popularity of anime is growing.

Pretty sure the weeaboo thing is a meme made by Papa Franku and there's a difference between weebs and anime fans.

No, Filthy Frank created the abominations known as ironic weebs.

@Mameme, you know the UK has had plenty of Anime viewership for like a long time right? We had Toonami back in 2003, we haven't collectively been living under a rock, where anime has just recently been an emerging market.

I did not know about Toonami, I thought Adult Swim/Toonami was US-only, I'm more so talking about my generation as well (16/17/18 year olds) who are into stuff like Kill la Kill, Madoka Magica and so on. They didn't watch anime in 2003, only recently.

This is just my personal opinion, but I think we're seeing a generational divide in anime. I'm being a little bit of a prick here, but I've seen a instances of very much anime fans become very much against anime.

I know it's anecdotal evidence but someone I know loved anime from the 90's but because anime is moving away from shonen to seinen he kept saying that anime as a whole was "going to shit quality wise" and eventually started to hate anime. It's not that there's more people that hate anime, rather it's that there's more people that hate that the anime industry isn't producing stuff they like anymore.

2000: dbz, naruto and such.
2017: Boku no Hero Academia, Ancient Magus' bride and such.
"Anime is ruined 5 evar!"

Oversaturation of anything will spawn any kind of "Anti-Something". See enough of something and people will get sick of it eventually, because people are complicated and have differing preferences, and therefore can't all be pleased.

Personally, while I'm not a fan of anime (and kind of do my best to avoid looking at it), there's really not much I can do about something so omnipresent. Plus I still like to believe that people are more interested in tits than they actually are anime.

Boku no Hero Academia is still shonen actually.

OH HO ho…….i was waiting to comment about this THING more, although i vent this before but not so much. Yeah during this time ( i thnk since 2 years old or something) that i see this in many places of the internet (specially the ones from imageboards or youtube) and truly this has become very annoying lately.
-Although many fandoms suffer this thing of extremist fanboys before and now, the fandom of manga and anime obviously is not an exception, and yeah there are obnoxious and zealot fans in this part, with classic flame wars about shipping or changes or themes in stories, their overfanatism of some series or games or even a country at all, his disdain to another thing (for example western cartoons or comics, even movies and games) and his fantasies to some character), with some franchises more notorious than others. Doesn't help that the meaning of ''Otaku'' in japan (that in western world is for fans of manga and anime) is more about a fan obsessed with something (arms, comics, games, etc) and they were accused years before for the ''Otaku pandering'' that ruined the industry (but this was maybe more for the Great Recession and the economic crisis in japan in the early years of THIS DECADE).
Neverthless, not all fans are this, hopefully, there are fans that like to watch or read manga and anime very normal and are very nice to some other fans. And they not fall with this ugly stereotype and know this thing of ''rotten apples''.
-And for the anime in general right now, i see that there are more attention for the new series than 5 or 7 years before (I will not refer to which, because some of all know are), although there were a decline in popularity in the early years of this decade (this happened also with the games and the music with similar reasons) , thanks to the previously referred Great Recession and the lack of mediums to broadcast anime legally in some parts of the world and that some japanese companies doesnt like to export for this things or the overabundance of fanservice, i think that anime and manga in general are still in force (maybe not as huge before but still, even if its a niche now (except obviously in japan and some parts of Asia and Europe). And for the series that have ''fanservice'' or the genre of harem or yaoi or moe or about fans or even based on light novels or whatever, although they fall with this cliches that suffers, some of them outlast some of this prejudices, with different themes or ones that are very over the top that embraces this in tongue in cheek mod. And more that if this series are not so popular in his home country, maybe they become more outside. And exist yet some mature works that have different themes. And also some very well known franchises Dragon Ball, are yet popular (even with their early flaws).
And yeah not all modern animes are really BAD. I see lately in latin american and hispanic communities the same thing to the point tha this become an annoying circlejerk without coments some good things about this modern things, only talking the negative side (well everything is this now). And although the opinions of Miyazaki have some trues, not all are true, there are good animators or artists that have make great things now in movies (like Makoto Shinkai), doesn't help that Miyazaki sometimes fall in the same league to Alan Moore or John Kricfalusi, that are now for beign great talents in their field but they are very harsh with their industries with different reasons. Not helped thanks to this infamous meme.
-And for this thing yeah all of this has begin with Filthy Frank and his video ''WEEABOOS'', although i think that this began earlier with the decline of popularity of manga and anime in the west and mocking fans of modern series, that cemented this TREND, although his video was for mocking to very extremist fans with this term ( that was known in general to term fanboys), thanks to his fanbase and the youtube comments (that in general is the most toxic place of the internet, even some parts of imageboards are more polite than this) and with the rise of dank and/or ironic memes and Shitposting begin this thing that many love or hate right now. With this things of Corey or king of the hill or spongebob or johnny test or whattever is best anime, ''anime was mistake'', hate on anime ids, etc etc. have become very very notorious in the last years to the point of oversaturation (yeah the same thing that many hate in internet but like with other things instead). Yeah i know that some or many fans have come to this ironic thing, although many for self-deprecation sometimes this things sadly going to the point of self-loathing in a very obnoxious way to the point that many seems to like very ironic some work or act like a legit fanboy (with waifu things) specially in anime forums and even in some mainstream pages. Although its not bad to mock or critizing some ugly parts of the fandom, its not better to self loating many parts of this that this become more a hater than a fan, to the point that you dont know if this people act ironically or not. This also become notorious in some fans of jojo or OPM , that like rick and morty fandom, have make this things to annoying and tired levels that many (even in this site) have become tired (even seems that this have become common before with some fans of KLK and space dandy or any work of hiroyuki imaishi or shinichiro watanabe works). And for the famous ''HATERS'', in my opinion some haters are more obnoxious than fans or fanboys in occasions, at least the fanboy have the same tastes like you. Unlike the haters that are very obnoxious and immature to hate something to the point that they become to intolerant to everything (even if he says that is for a joke or ironic), i have very harsh experiences with all of this before, especiall in latin american communities of youtube (like Loquendo). And is ironic that other fandoms jump on this bandwagon of nonsense hate that only make the things worst.
Hopefully that this things seems that have been slowly died down as the anime and manga in general community is still going strong yet, even with their flaws or not.
Sorry if this has been long but i wanted to express this thing that has become very debatable for myself for this things and vented more.
And TL;DR yeah this thing have become very notorious to the point of fatigue and satiety, taht although its not bad to mock some obnoxious fans is not correct to hate the things that you like.

Holy wall of text, Batman!
Like someone said, once things become too mainstream, people jump on the hate bandwagon because they see it everywhere.
When I was in high school and the first years of college, I was kind off a weeb. Now that I'm older and while I do enjoy certain anime, I'm mostly indifferent to it.

Well you get my point; anytime the type of shows a industry pumps out changes regardless of the quality of the shows someone somewhere is going to say that said industry is "ruined4evar™"
